Its the 9th plume back from the front tip the plume has a protrusion that is finger shaped. which way it is pointing i know not but I think it must come out of the plume and hang downwards kind of claw like. i'll recheck mine and see if there is one.

Hi thazz. David J Groom's book "The Identification of British 20th Century Bronze Coin Varieties" Covers all the Decimal Coins. 1971 2 pence has no less than 3 reverses as does 1975. 1976 has 2. 1977 has 2 obverse and 2 reverse types. there are a few others with different obverse and reverse types also the proofs of different years have different obverse and reverse types. So yes a good book for 20th century bronzes and decimal issues. a must have book really. He also has the same book but title slightly different it is the silver and cupro edition.

I have made the call and it's a jeckel IMO too many discrepancies marked on the pictures. The head they used is not from a rupee imo the hair at the back is swept forwards with a wavy line about an inch above the ear. The script as you mentioned is also suspect there is no angular kink that gives that boomerang shape just a curved line and it is dotted. The line tip that points just past the right edge of the E upright is too far past almost half the bottom serif. Rims are way too thick. Suspect rim teeth Legend style. different fonts and pointings. I am sure I I spent some time I could find many more but what I have seen is more than enough to call it a copy. Scarey thing is it will fool a lot of people. It will I hope ultimately go down the road of unless it is guaranteed authentic then you cannot sell it. I am all for that . Something has to give as this isn't just isolated cases its becoming the norm. Surely in part the industry has a responsibility and so does the online crooks ebay and alike that lets this garbage on the site to start with. Eventually it will hurt sales in a big way. More so for raw coins further pushing people towards coffin coins

I am not so worried about the lettering they came in both styles large and narrow and if you can without doing your eyes any damage see the split serifs on the lettering showing it's double struck of course it could be blur. What I didn't like was the rim thickness and the teeth blending into the rim. They always spell danger signs for me. But I keep coming back to the head and I cannot fault the hair style or it's general look apart from he doesn't have a pig nose. That also could of been done to make him look less like a fugly . Unfortunately this is my world error and variety hunting sometimes means taking that leap of faith. A lot of looks like this and could be that are just that in reality. But for every 9 that are nothing that 1 that is what you think you saw it makes up for all the disappointments and of course you learn a little more. What a superb coin by the way. About as top draw as your going to see. Although I did see a Victoria rupee PL67 jesus it's stunning but £27,000 a little out of my price range

You know what I am tempted to buy and it probably has no monetary value? Trench art but not the cruddy rough hat etched on and a moustache lol. The proper ones with total transformations or the ones with skeleton faces. I am a great admirer of talent esp something I think is almost close to genius. Esp from someone who was graded D+ on a stickman drawing lol
-
Not me lol. They can go run and cliff jump I know what 's what. I meant the noobs who get left collections and ask the value. dealers all falling over each other to get as close to scrap as possible lol. If you say something you get a nasty lil dig in Im . Not that I care . I often message whoever it is who is asking and tell them what its worth.

I still don't like the scrap price valuations people are given for decent material.

1947 1/2 Anna (b) rarity
zookeeperz replied to zookeeperz's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
I asked on that forum in July this year all I could gain from the discussions was no coins dated 1947 had mint marks Until a Guy posted his 1947B 1/2 anna which pretty much silenced the thread lol. Followed by my post and all they could confirm was yes that is the rare 1947B 1/2 anna. Another guy at chiefa coins I think its called said there were 4 million minted. So I am thinking perhaps they pulled them before release and some escaped as they do. Or loads would of been about? It is kind of frustrating but enjoying the journey and the knowledge learned along the way. And those 2 coins are the only two coins I have seen. No auction has sold any even in the mixed lots all are calcutta mints. -
What do you think of this I put it along side that coin you put up Rob. Whilst I can count about 30 differences. I don't see it being a fake. The pic is blurry-ish which should be the first scare off normally. But looking at the hair which looks fine to me and the reverse most if looking at the lettering is double struck and is probably giving that thicker appearance. It looks fine . There are differences in pointings to legends and I am not sure but the facial features esp the nose look different. None of which are unusual during a coin series. Not been able to find much out about dies used. But they come in no mark on bust truncation raised F ,incuse F, RS, Thick and thin legends. So not within the realms of possibility that varieties exist. I just think it looks too good to be a wrong-un. What do you guys think?

Copied as much as the trade dollar so it's a minefield but fortunately most are shocking and easy to notice to the trained or even moderately trained eye. I can't see how these folk get pulled in with genuine coins in virtually the next listings. Unless they just don't care what it is
-
Nothing wrong with your pictured one I'd have no problem buying it
-
Wow just wow there a ton of these and what really surprises me nobody well it seems nobody even looks at coins of same date. I know what that particular F stands for https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRITISH-INDIA-1835-F-ON-NECK-ONE-RUPEE-KING-WILLIAM-BEAUTIFUL-SILVER-COIN-14/162727371525

Which also begs the question how rare are these shilling that have die numbers unaccounted for. After all we are 250 years on from mintage and there are plenty of documentation and books on die's associated with each year. Surely 1 would have surfaced in all that time? It would make these coins Excessively rare would it not?

Actually I don't mind the official modern restrikes. Esp Edward VIII. Being deprived of his coins and the only official ones would probably mean taking out a mortgage they somehow for me anyway do have a place even if it is only a reference point in history. I nearly bought the Silver (hallmarked Double florin pattern) £20 which for all the work that is put into the design and it being .925 Silver gives it some Voice to considered an add on to a collection and is cheap as chips as Mr Dickenson says. Who knows in years to come some fake news may run a story on Edward VIII and remark on the lack of his coinage and only official restrikes are available but are all sold out. It would be Kew all over again. ( I wish)
-
It gets a bit much when they start faking the certificated restrikes(Modern fantasy Coins)
-
Well he called it a 1902 crown for a start and besides that its a fake . Ambiguous protection of "I can't guarantee authenticity" clearly states he knows what they are. I put this in the category of clever misselling . But he has given the onus on the punter to decide buy it or leave it but don't come crying to me if it isn't real.

There are a few missing numbers that I have seen that are not on that list Die number 3 and die number 67
-
A lot of the so called coin dealers are merely drop shippers on small margins playing the bulk order roulette wheel. They source either real or replica's get a bulk deal and send the info on to the shippers they are only middle men really nothing more. I bought you a drink but as you couldn't be here I drank it

"Sold without guarantee of authenticity" Hardly surprising seeing as it is fake cast garbage from a monarch who reigned for 6 years and died @ the age of 15. Didn't know he died of old age and a bald head. reigned 1547-1553 R.I.P my lord Oh he made a typo i'll forgive him that but surely to go he must know the difference between a crown and a florin? Perhaps it's Edward VII+3/4

Max die number was 130 as for individuals numbers no idea . scratch that this should sort you out http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/dieno.html

Is this classed under the Die deterioration section?

Found the punctuation differences on the 1967 pennies the round v oval saga

I never really read that far in to the later bronze issues even less so the decimals. Who would of thought there are 4 reverse types for 1971 2 pence. I guess I need to rethink on these such is the public's fascination with decimal coinage. Only takes a whiff of fake news and suddenly coins come from obscurity to fame and fortune
