After dancing around the house I re-read your reply - so its not a Gouby BP1860BB which is Freeman 8B, but rather Gouby BP1860E which is freeman 6. Is that correct? -

Difficult subject in which we must consider the following: 1. Like any collection tastes change - values change - what is popular today becomes totally uncollectible in 20 years. 2. As for the new coins being made of metals that have no intrinsic value - what about the bronze pennies? 3. Some collect coins for their design, others for their history etc. just a quick snapshot on peoples behaviour. What got me hooked on pennies - was - a. my pocket size b. The design and c. The History. So as a collector I am satisfied with my passion for the Bronze penny and will always continue to collect. Do I expect to make some money when I sell - yes hopefully. At best I hope not to loose money but realise that it could turn on its head and no one wants them even at give-away prices. Im just pleased that people are collecting coins again and hope some may delve deeper and start collecting predecimals. -
One of the most contentious issues on any coin forum appears to be grading. Could grading methods used by Freeman vs Gouby be one of the issues? In addition what is the equivalent of the following grading by Gouby for Freeman. Gouby Fine Gouby Very Fine Gouby Extra Fine Gouby AUNC Gouby UNC Thanks Fred

Grading Freeman vs Gouby

Yes thanks I do have a copy -that’s what I use to grade my coins - the uncertainty arose out of swing terminology that I was not familiar with which I assumed came from Freeman. -
Grading Freeman vs Gouby
hazelman replied to hazelman's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Gents perhaps I haven't phrased myself correctly . To be fair i dont have any reference material from Freeman an as such tend to use Gouby. The reasons I came to this conclusion is that I have heard terms that i am not accustomed to which i assumed are terms used by Freeman such as Good Very Fine, which to me would be VF+ is this incorrect? -

Thought I had posted Obverse - not much difference between obverse and reverse. Nice to know we are aligned on Grade I did have it slightly higher at EF.
-
Out of curiosity and additional learning what grade would you give the F13 (ship without a flag) posted above?
-
Ive learnt something today that I always wondered about - that is if I understood you correctly. When you speak of lamination does that mean that there were two separate layers of metal?
-
Die clash is what id thought and can see the stick - Im just wondering why it hasnt been designated an official variety? Monetary value - as a die clash i didnt expect a premium. I just love the coin - was going to make a political comment but in the current climate thought best not to.
-
Not a great pic - but finally am able to post. My questions are Has anyone had one like this before? would it be considered a variety?
