    Zimgrind - there is an expert amongst us who has taught me how to decontaminate my coins- this will not make it glow , change colour - or any other weird or wonderful things but what it will do is remove and surface grease etc without damaging your coins - just use acetone (not nail varnish remover ) with a cuetip and gently dab it on your coin. With regards your toned 1908 penny there are many collectors who prefer toned coins. the question is what grade is it - many here can help you on that if you paste a pic or two.

    Everyone of you have listed coins that i believe are iconic with the exception of the 1887 Jubilee Sovereign. Am i the only one that has never been impressed by this design ?

  16. Was at a friends looking through his collection - he appears to have a large amount of counter stamped Victorian pennies. However besides love tokens he was not able to explain why so many coins have counter stamps - so ive come to the experts who im certain can inform me as to why coins have been counter stamped

  18. Copper, Some interesting information especially around the need to counter stamp due to illiteracy. Yes he did have 1 with pears soap not a penny though trying to remember what is was
