What amazing images - are you using a scanner and if so which one - and what other software? -
Good evening all Allow mw to introduce myself as a newbie on this site having been directed here from someone I purchased a coin from recently. I have been collecting coins for about 10 years - I started with any and every coin and over the years have slowly finding my greatest interest lies in Copper pennies and shillings from Queen Victoria to current. Of these I am most keen on Bun Head and King Edward penny and shilling coins. While I have begun finding good resource material for Penny coins "gouby" ive struggled finding the best resource for shilling coins any recommendations? best regards Frederick. Would also be interested in good online auction sites. I must say been reading through the forums and what a great site compliments to all.

Coinery, Thanks i tried it on 3 coins - the last one a 1864 penny as i was most impressed with the amount of decontamination showed up on the ear bud. I really am impressed but must say was to afraid to to wipe the 1864 with the ear bud so i just dabbed it on /off then allowed it to dry on a lint free cloth. What i like is that as you say i have since checked the coins very carefully and no signs of hairline scratches. Thank you

Good advice - in fact i was thinking of trying it on a 60's penny and 60's shilling

Paulus - thanks Stuart. Most interesting ive always wondered if there is any way that i can clean prior to putting in coin capsules but everyone has advised never doing it . Now your approach is rather interesting (decontaminating - love the reference) If it works well i can see the benifits of doing this - i think i just may give it a go best regards

Terrible discipline on my behalf - will make sure all future posts are in the correct thread

As someone who since returning to the UK has found that the only way of finding coins is via ebay and one or two online auctions that ive found through searching i hear alot on this forum of buying via Dealers can the team recommend a few good Dealers whose sites i can continue to look through. Ive bought from Declan and a few others on this site .Is there a list somewhere. Getting to coin fairs may be the best bet but to be honest its difficult finding time to get down to Coin fairs even if i new where they were.

I have recently purchased the identification of British 20th ||Century Bronze coin varieties - i already have Gouby. Perhaps i need to buy a reference book on grading?

Of all the coins i have collected this remains my all time favourite design the Ceres Head 5 Franc. It is Regal and yet sultry. My Queen Bee http://s87.photobucket.com/user/frederickalangibson/media/1870o_zpsf5523162-1.jpg.html

Thanks gents, Obverse is attached on a link above. To look at its got about 70 -75% lustre. Im using Lindner Digital Microscope for my pics as my scanner is down - and all my pics appear to have these fleck marks. Not sure if its because the lighting in my Office is not that good or my ability to use the microscope. If anyone else is using the Lindner Microscope are you finding your pics all appear with flecks. best regards
