  1. We need to keep on supporting this petition and spreading the word. What could happen in one country could spread to another. It would be an absolute travesty. Hope all are well!

Rome The Great Power That She Was

Julius Caesar, Denarius. Military mint traveling with Caesar, 49-48 BC. I have always loved this type. So happy it came in the other week for sale along with a whole collection of over 100 Denarii. Contained in a lovely Victorian cabinet, perfect! Just thought I'd share it as its a nice example. Cheers, Tim

    Idiots collecting Freeman numbers

Great reply. Astonished to read from the beginning of this thread! I use Freeman for lots of my research. Good to see the passion is still there at 75. Long may it continue.

Ah yes, I like it. Love a 1902 Crown, still under rated in top grades I think

I've often thought that with Roman coins in general, especially silver. If you were so inclined, even if a beginner in coin collecting you could amass a fair collection. Do you think the demand is becoming less for Roman, or is that too general?

The reverse is nice on yours. I just think if you want a piece of Roman coin history in your hand, this is what I'd choose!

    A book worth buying!

Just reliving my teenage years through this book. I bought it when I was about 17, it's fantastic, mainly because of the engravings. It is Volume II of 'Old England' printed in 1854. Lots of coins, portraits and architecture, ties it in all nicely! Worth getting hold of if you can, even if it is just to look at the Victorian coin engravings. Cheers, Tim

    Morning! Newbie here

Dear all, Just wanting to introduce myself and say hello. Have just joined the forum, and looking forward to meeting you all. I used to be a member on here a fair few years ago when a teenager as 'Coins4u'. Enjoyed seeing all the conversations going on back then and thought I'd reincarnate myself. I hope everyone is having a good weekend! Cheers, Tim

    Morning! Newbie here

Hi Tom thanks! I used to have a few, long gone now. Great area to collect! How are you getting along finding nice examples at the mo? Actually, it's a struggle. There are plenty of dire coins. However those I consider to be better examples are very thin on the ground. People are either holding on to them, or they sell for considerably more than they would have done a year or two back .....of course, it may just be I'm getting too fussy in my old age!.I have noticed that too, hard to find the good stuff! My taste had changed too, so I think as every year goes by we become more picky!

Thanks Peter and Coinery! My preference is late hammered to c.1820. Although American and foreign generally has grown on me. Dorset is stunning, funnily enough Peter I only moved from your neck of the woods down here about 8 months ago. I used to run a coin auction there for 2/3 years. How about you gents? Your coin preferences?

    Civil War Pound.

This coin was probably my favourite ever to handle for sale. There was something about it I loved. Probably the story that went with it, and just the fact that it was pulled out of a purse wrapped in tissue paper! A bit like metal detecting I suppose, you get enjoyment out of being the first person to really appreciate it in a long time (although this coin only about 50 years).
