  1. I don't blame you, I had the same stance until I saw the sheer amount of security around the commercial cloud offerings. It is obviously in their interest to keep your data safe, one significant breach and the cloud bubble bursts!
  2. To be fair regarding cloud I sell both AWS (Amazon) and Oracle cloud as well as traditional infrastructure and the security applied to cloud is far beyond anything most home user's would have. Also, for corporate use, the information is usually replicated to a minimum of 2 other site's meaning three copies. In the event of a who data centre going down there would be the other copies located elsewhere. Virtually every bit of information you now give to your bank, gas company etc etc is stored in the cloud in one way or another.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I am pretty sure this seller buys off someone I know and uses their photos along with a significant mark up on their original purchase price.
  5. A recent addition and it will do as my type example for now.

    March LCA catalogue now up

Thanks for the replies, I have been looking at Charles 1st shillings etc and have been trying to find examples that are un clipped, fairly central and have a good portrait. I have yet to make a purchase but I am trying to get more confident on what I view as a good coin before I take the plunge.

    March LCA catalogue now up

Does anybody know which book this would have come from? I am trying to make the leap into some hammered and early milled examples but I am finding myself struggling with the grading.
  8. This thread seems to have gone very quiet so here are two new additions. The 1917 seems to be a weak Obverse strike and the 1887 has a few bag marks but the fields are superb in hand:

    Recent aquisitions

Thanks Leo. I got them as I loved the design and the toning on them all. I know they are all common dates and mint marks but they have great eye appeal.

    Recent aquisitions

A few recent none British purchases:
  14. Can anyone recommend some books on German coinage, preferably post unification? Thanks Non
  15. So anything pre 49 is the €45 charge correct?
  16. Azda am I right in thinking it's €45 per coin on an economy service?
  17. Thanks Azda. I have a few I am tempted to slab and them being at the Midlands in March may be the ideal time to give them a go.

    Selection of coins

Hi Woodchip. Welcome. It looks like a collection of sixpences, threepences, shillings and a Soveriegn (maybe half?) ranging from William IV to George V.
  19. Thank you. I have just picked up a few higher grade but common 1 Marks and wanted to learn a bit more. At those prices and as my German extends to hello and a few odd words picked up from my degree I may have to wait and see what pops up on ebay!

    poor coin dealers

Yes but they are selling for stupid prices on ebay now, one sold yesterday I believe for £56 ish. Amazing how the Daily Mail can have that effect on the pricing.

    Modern Coinage vs Older Coinage

I totally agree on the Lima Halfcrowns. I have been looking for one for over a year and only 2 have come close to grabbing my interest. I want one as an example but I am happy to wait for the right one to turn up.
  23. A newbie, the pictures do not do the toning justice....
