  1. Clearly I had a bad day when I posted this.... I wont the 02 and 05 not the 06 Bith just arrived, both look better in hand although there is a touch of verd on the 02 Its not clear on the pictures that it is verd but in hand it is clear to see. It looks like it will just flick off when I get home though
  2. I had an email earlier saying they were shipping them today for delivery tomorrow

    Lining for coin cases

Is MDF safe to use? I though the glues used to bind it could potentially affect the coins. Is there anyone with more experience able to confirm this?

    Lining for coin cases

I guess the first thing to ask is what type of wood are they made from?
  5. I won the 1902 and the 1906. The 06 is a weak strike but looked OK for the money. The 02 I am hoping is better in hand.

    Beginner errors

Welcome Bob. Check out the grading book from rotographic as a good starting point for later milled predecimal. It's a great starter book.
  10. Chris is usualy at the coin fair and is a decent bloke to deal with. The coins I have had off him I have been happy with.

    CGS "membership" Fee

I have no hope of contacting them at the moment. The CGS number goes unanswered and the London coins number gets answered by Semra and you're told we're not CGS and get hung up on.... emails are hit an miss sometimes the reply is within minutes others there is no reply. I will have to wait and see what happens but contractually they cannot take the higher fee as its not what I signed up for.

    CGS "membership" Fee

Seems to be fine here and no changes to the fee's mentioned above that I can see

My first batch of coins to CGS

They can't charge anymore than I signed up for on the submission form as far as I am aware. I am guessing they will either return my coins or charge me under the pricing model on the submission for I signed.

    CGS Again

Well seven Half crowns will be going to the post office in about an hour along with two pennys to be reslabbed so I imagine I will see some results back in a couple of months I think most will be graded between 50 and 70 based on their grading guide if they are not rejected. I will post the UIN's once I get them.

    CGS Again

I am still new to all this compared a most of you but I totally agree with azda. I started to focus on George V half crowns as they were relatively cheap 8 months ago (is it just me or do the prices for decent George V half crowns seem to have gone a bit mad on ebay/at the coin fairs of late?) and not knowing how much the quality can vary so much year to year. I still find it hard to judge if my grading is accurate or not. It seems the ear on a 1914 HC, which would be gvf on other dates, is EF on a 14 etc. I have actually decided to take the plunge and send some of my half crowns to CGS to see what grades I get back versus what I think they are.
