  1. One for the Copper boys to help out on. Inspired by the 1858 Penny with F over B I decided to have a look at my couple of 1858. Not sure what this is but definately looks like something there. This coin has the WW on truncation!
  2. Thanks Richard, appreciate the info and help. Agree with everything you've stated. Think mine definitely shows a few different anomalies that Michael hasn't listed, but to list everything would as you say be impossible. This is the great thing about this hobby there is always new things to find. Thanks Brian
  3. Here are some close ups of the date. Thanks all in advance.
  4. Thanks to my son I have final got a copy of Michael Gouby's Penny book 1860-1901. I have been systematically going through my Victorian pennies, and have a few more to get through, but am struggling to assign this one within the 1874 batches. The 1, 7 and 4 of the date have all been overstruck. I thought it was initially the "Nk (K+J)" reverse, but doesn't have the rounded foot to the 7. It maybe that I am new to the book but just having a few problems pinning it down and hoped you guys could help.
  5. Just received a few nice pennies from Pete today too, all raw though as that's what I collect. A really nice 1950 proof, 1948 BU and a nice example of the 1946 Dot. Very happy with them. Not that I ever had a doubt. Great coins from a great guy who has been very helpful to me and many others. Thanks Pete, appreciate all the help.
  6. Don't think anyone would have done it to con or make money out of the penny. Think they have just done it to see what would happen or as an experiment of some kind. As I said before its still a very unusual coin and a good curio to keep a hold of.
  7. Think after Ian's observation that would also rule me out. Post mint so not as interested. Still a very unusual piece. Thought it was strange being so uniform.
  8. I know I wouldn't mind this in my collection.
  9. Here is one I recently bought. Again decimal but a nice error, at least I think so.
  10. like this one, ALOT!!!!!
  11. Hi All Not my thing as I don't collect crowns but came across this and thought someone maybe interested. Seems like a good price to me, but not an expert!! http://www.delcampe.net/page/item/id,357355845,var,PIECE-GRANDE-BRETAGNE-1-CROWN-GEORGES-V-1927--15-000-EXEMPLAIRES,language,E.html Hope it helps someone.
  12. Yes there is. The small head being the rarer of the two. The small head is the same as the 1991 and the larger becomes the standard for this effigy until it changes.
  13. Hi All I have a bronze Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medallion without box but want to house it. The rest of my collection is slowly but surely going into Quadrum cases. Is there something out there for this size of Medallion/coin. It is 56mm. Advice gratefully accepted. Thanks Brian
  14. really not sure about price Pete, haven't managed to find anyone with it for sale yet! I know I will pay £5 for a reasonable one or more for one in pristine condition!
  15. I have been trying to get a nice example of the Dot to Dot 1992 10p for a while. The L I and A of ELIZABETH point to a bead and 1 of 1992 also points to a bead. I have all the other 4 variants and 2 light weight 1992 10p's both weighing 6.3g instead of 6.5g.
  16. Think if you have a good look around now you will find lots of Decimal Coin Collectors. Have a look at Facebook groups and dedicated decimal websites. I collect a bit of everything, main predecimal bronze and copper. Maybe the price is a little high but these prices are being realised so definitely a market for them and therefore a collector base. I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at either as part of my collection.
  17. that's what I thought originally too!
  18. I was going to ask the same question!!!!!
  19. Congrats on the rare coins John. Hope you do really well with them. Jealous of both.
  20. Very informative article from Chris there. Looks as though he may have been a bit miffed at the time of writing it initially to!!! ? Thanks for the info guys. Knew I could count on you.
  21. If Chris is right about there being approximately 450 then I would say that is pretty rare. The sellers seems to have 2 very sort after decimal coins. I hadn't realised he had the first edition Olympic Swimming 50p too!!!! Very nice.
  22. I just noticed one of the 1983 Uncirculated sets on Ebay with the "New Pence" 1983 2p. I know its a rare coin but actually how rare is it??? Here is the link to the Auction. Would love to know more. Thanks all in advance http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161955652321?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D161955652321%26_rdc%3D1 Cheers Brian
  23. Here are a few more examples from 1919 and 1921. One of the 1919 seem to have some of both sides. I originally thought someone had tried to colour these but sure they are part of the same defect. Not quite as bitty more streaking!
  24. Well I also have a 1920 like Matts, not quite as well defined, but also on the reverse. I also have this 1921 with it on the Obverse only. Every time I have seen it It only seems to affect one side. maybe different weights of metal sinking to the bottom of the mix!!! Anyway here is mine. Just took it very quickly in a dull room and camera phone so sorry for quality! The effect always reminds me of Tortoise Shell.
  25. Looks more like a 1 under that 5 than any other number, were the bottom part has been totally removed and only the left hand top serif can be seen and the top part of the down stroke from behind the downward stroke of the 5. However there also seems to be something coming out from the back of the 5's curve. Strange!
