I have both heads in 1p,2p,5p and 20p haven't found a 10p yet for the new effigy, although I have all the 2015 4th head upto £1, like Coinery, all in nice collectable condition too.

I can't find them. Maybe its just me?

Just bringing this topic back as I have a question about capsules. I have most of my coins in 2x2 flips housed in sheets and have just started to think about getting the better coinage into Square Quadrum Capsules so i can house them into coin trays. I am planning on housing all my pennies first and have noticed that different places give diffeerent size for pennies. Some say you should use the 30mm and some say the 31mm. I know that bronze pennies should be about 30.8mm or so. Which one is right? Anyone use these for their bronze coinage? Any advice appreciated.

Hi All I am looking for a 1902 LT half penny in just a basic condition. Nothing fancy just to say i have one. Fine or near condition would be great as long as it has a nice toning and colour. My budget just doesn't stretch to EF+(to be honest my budget doesn't stretch far at all ) and these seem to be the only condition I can find them in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks All Brian

Hi Al I am bidding on a coin a 1948 penny, nothing special but a nice coin to replace a a basic one I have. But when I looked closer it is exactly the same 1948. Both the 1948 coins shown in the 2 auction lots are the same coin. The 1949 coin is obviously different. The description state to look at the images and decide grade, etc.. For yourself. Obviously it is impossible to judge a coin if it is not the coin shown. That is my point.

I have already sent him a private message. He stated that they are different coins but have the same colouring!!!! So have sent back a reply telling him they are one and the same coin. Black dot on hair above ear and dot on the field at about 11 o'clock just off the head. Will tell you how I get on. I am bidding on both lots now!

Think Coinery would have probably done a better job than me. I will have to learn how to start taking photo's of my coins!!!!!!!

Hi Jacinbox Not sure its worth anyone buying as the coin is so worn. Nice to know it may have a premium. I think it is just a real curio. I have done some pics in Photoshops overlaying the Dot/Mark 1919 over the 1919 KN. I have coloured the mark in slightly red so it stands out a bit more. But it does definately line up with the N of KN very nicely. The for shows them exactly merged 50/50 the second I pulled the 2 apart to show a ghosting between them. Cheers Brian

Hi Pete No worries. To me it is more the discussion and that I may have something, whether valueable or not, that is numismatically interesting. The coin itself is worn out, but my interest is to how and why the "dot/mark" is there. Was it from reused, Kings Norton dies, etc.. which had not been filled in correctly. If so its a great piece for the collection and helps me understand a little more about the history of the Royal Mint, etc.. Would love to know David's thoughts on the coin and have been really intrigued at the discussion so far from Matt, Vicky, Rob, Coinery, Jacinbox and yourself. Although lots of speculation its been really interesting seeing the range of idea's and thoughts. This group and the people in it are great. So pleased I joined. You are definately right about the Heaton Mint as it just doesn't fit at all. The N of KN does however.

Hi Vicky, I have done quite a few measurements and it lines up very well with the N of KN. Both the slight raised section (dot) and the N are both 2.2 mm from the centre of the first 1 in date. I am getting a set of digital calipers shortly so will do some more testing once they arrive.

This is with a different 1919H. There is some difference put let you judge! i thought it lined up nicely with the N of KN.

Hi Matt, In Davids book P.58 Minor Varieties No.6 " On the plain type some examples have been found with a raised dot where the H would have been, had the coin been a Heaton mint example."
