Robinson Cutler Token
bhx7 replied to Sheencrofter's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thought I would revive this thread as it already has information regarding this counter marker. Here is a 1797 George III penny with the business information of Robinson's Oxford a Cutler and Razor Maker. I got this today as a pure curio. I also noted that of all the examples of this I managed to find online, I haven't seen another with a date stamped on reverse, most usually being only stamped on one side. -
Hi All Trying to find out more about this tiny coin I have. It has what looks to me like a very crude elephant and people on one side, but maybe wrong. It is only approx 9 mm in diameter and looks to be bronze. Any help in identifying it would be appreciated. Thanks

Just found the first 2017 with smooth area to the right of the Hologram on the rim. I have checked literally 100's, banking almost £600 worth of £1 coins for the kids group I run in the last month alone. Anyone else come across any 2017 the same?

Still waiting to be accepted onto the page. Will let you know what I find out.

Think you are definitely right about India, Paddy. Trawled through Krause 1600-1900 so far without any luck, looking at India and all its sections. Will have to have another look to see if I have possibly have missed it.

I can definitely see something there!!! and would have thought it was a 3 over 2 on that one

My friend just dropped the coin off and as soon as he placed it into my hands I knew exactly what had happened. It is a hollowed out two pence which someone has then filled with a resin or putty of sorts and then imprinted with the reverse of another two pence. Why they have done it is up for debate but my friend said it has been in his penny/coin Jar since the mid seventies. We come from an industrial town so maybe one of the workmen got bored one day and made it up on a lathe. So just a curio nothing else. -

Think its incuse Matt but haven't actually had it in hand yet. Its a friends who isn't a coin collector. I had suspicions that there was something wrong especially with the differing colour and also having a standard obverse as I hadn't seen this before and couldn't find it on any pages. -
Glad about the double strike thought I needed glasses there for a split second.

Hi Guys Need a bit help. Is this a genuine brockage or is it something else... -
Hi Guys I just came back across a coin, I use the term loosely, that I have had stuck away for what must be 15-20+ years. I can't even remember where it came from, I am assuming with a lot of other bits and pieces. It is smaller than a threepence, about twice as thick and is uni-faced and appears to be silver (although I maybe wrong as I haven't tested it). Anyone any idea what it is?

It was a price that both Rob and I were happy with. That is what coin collecting is all about

Thanks Rob. Got the Dot to Dot today. Brilliant coin along with the others. Appreciate it. Cheers Brian

Very interesting. Will look into that to see if that could be what this is.... ****Update***** while looking into the information bagerap gave me I stumbled across the following page: http://www.coincoin.com/srCB.htm I then looked up in Krause, not quite as indepth as the above site but seems I have a piece of Cambodian Tical Coinage - 2 PE (1/2 Fuang) from the rule of Norodom I and dating to 1847-60.

Here is a pic for size comparison.

That thread really doesn't give a definitive regarding safety of storage one way or the other. If you wrap the coins in acid free parchment, or even coin envelopes. Into lint free clean cloth the vaccum the air out. The tests shown in that thread gave no indication of having any pre checks or provention of coins being kept in contact with plastic. Maybe worth an experiment on say some 1967 mint pennies and halfpennies.

Here is my latest B. E. Exhibition medal/token. Its the 32 mm aluminium HMV Gramophones one. I find it amazing that these have lasted. I have also managed to pick up a 1925 version of the Noble Industries bronze medallion.

Hi All, Can anyone give me the etiquette for sending coins to the Royal Mint for checking. The coins are not valuable but seem to have missed some process or other. Just want to clarify what has happened. Does anyone have the correct address. Do you send a returns envelope, etc... Thanks all in advance.

I hadn't seen this post but had seen the Ebay auction for this. I sent the seller a message saying I could see a stamp and thought it was a WRL stamp next to the head on obverse. I got a message back saying I was a jobsworth and that it was just a dent.

Hi All Got what I think is a bargain at the local Car Boot Sale this morning. I believe it is a 1 oz solid silver Medallion commemorating Ping An of China finance / insurance company joining the Hang Seng index in 2007. Thanks to Ian "Nutsaboutcoins" for the help. However I would love to have it translated completely. Any help appreciated. Thanks Brian
