  1. My friend just dropped the coin off and as soon as he placed it into my hands I knew exactly what had happened. It is a hollowed out two pence which someone has then filled with a resin or putty of sorts and then imprinted with the reverse of another two pence. Why they have done it is up for debate but my friend said it has been in his penny/coin Jar since the mid seventies. We come from an industrial town so maybe one of the workmen got bored one day and made it up on a lathe. So just a curio nothing else.
  2. Think its incuse Matt but haven't actually had it in hand yet. Its a friends who isn't a coin collector. I had suspicions that there was something wrong especially with the differing colour and also having a standard obverse as I hadn't seen this before and couldn't find it on any pages.
  3. Glad about the double strike thought I needed glasses there for a split second.
  4. Hi Guys Need a bit help. Is this a genuine brockage or is it something else...
  5. It was a price that both Rob and I were happy with. That is what coin collecting is all about
  6. Groan.....
  7. Thanks Rob. Got the Dot to Dot today. Brilliant coin along with the others. Appreciate it. Cheers Brian
  8. Very interesting. Will look into that to see if that could be what this is.... ****Update***** while looking into the information bagerap gave me I stumbled across the following page: http://www.coincoin.com/srCB.htm I then looked up in Krause, not quite as indepth as the above site but seems I have a piece of Cambodian Tical Coinage - 2 PE (1/2 Fuang) from the rule of Norodom I and dating to 1847-60.
  9. Here is a pic for size comparison.
  10. Hi Guys I just came back across a coin, I use the term loosely, that I have had stuck away for what must be 15-20+ years. I can't even remember where it came from, I am assuming with a lot of other bits and pieces. It is smaller than a threepence, about twice as thick and is uni-faced and appears to be silver (although I maybe wrong as I haven't tested it). Anyone any idea what it is?

    Vaccum packing.

That thread really doesn't give a definitive regarding safety of storage one way or the other. If you wrap the coins in acid free parchment, or even coin envelopes. Into lint free clean cloth the vaccum the air out. The tests shown in that thread gave no indication of having any pre checks or provention of coins being kept in contact with plastic. Maybe worth an experiment on say some 1967 mint pennies and halfpennies.
  12. Hi I was think the other day about vaccum packing some of my modern coins. Has anyone done this or know if there are any drawbacks, etc.. I was thinking of wrapping in parchment then in soft cloth before vaccum sealing. Then basically storing them away for the next 10-20 years. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
  13. Here is my latest B. E. Exhibition medal/token. Its the 32 mm aluminium HMV Gramophones one. I find it amazing that these have lasted. I have also managed to pick up a 1925 version of the Noble Industries bronze medallion.
  14. Think silver prices have dropped since then... Good article for the date, 2011.
  15. Hi Rob, I would be interested in the dot to dot veriaty. Cheers
  16. Tel read back on the threads you will find lots more information.
  17. I hadn't seen this post but had seen the Ebay auction for this. I sent the seller a message saying I could see a stamp and thought it was a WRL stamp next to the head on obverse. I got a message back saying I was a jobsworth and that it was just a dent.
  18. Unfortunately life got on the road. Will get it sorted soon and let you all know.
  19. This is the next one I am after. They are a great example of our industrial heritage.
  20. First couple by me and probably the most common. I need to update the Royal Mint McMillin medallion for a better one but the Metcalfe one is a beauty. Much better than the image.
  21. Would be interested to see how many we could get posted. Will put up the pics of mine later.
  22. Hi All I recently bought a couple of British Empire Medallions. The first was the art deco man sitting by Noble, 38mm Bronze. The second was the bust with winged hat by the Royal Mint, 26mm, Bronze. I am totally intrigued by them. I noted there are others. Does anyone know how many differing medallions/ tokens were produced at the Exhibition altogether. Thanks Brian
  23. Looks like it has had a rough life.
  24. Not sure if this has been noted. At the bottom of the coin around the edge. Below the hologram section the reeding is standardly to the right and with smooth to the left. I have checked about 70 coins up to now and have only found 1 that has reeding to the left. I know with the previous decimal coinage edge variation has been unimportant, but if this is the standard ratio then I would assume this would make a difference. Just an observation.
  25. Good thing about this hobby, time No major rush. Enjoy your coins and well spotted... Pete's coins are always nice and he's a great guy to deal with. Sure like most of us you already know that. Cheers Brian
