That coin has the modified head found on the 1926 ME and on the 1927 ?

The one thing I have noticed that seems to be present on all genuine Victorian copper pennies, is the wider tooth under the 4 in the date , which shows up very nicely on your Picture Jerry oops make that Ian 😁

The Ae has the 0 directly over tooth 13 as shown by Gouby. My coin is exactly 13 teeth which is the same as the Gouby Ae . But your coin has the 0 slightly to the left of tooth 13 so you could say its a 12.3/4 tooth width and is unlisted Maybe I'm nit picking as the difference is miniscule , but there must have been two dies as in my example the 7 is high in the exergue and in yours its lower down below the other digits in the date I trust I make myself perfectly obscure.

Sorry Richard .This Picture you show is not listed by Gouby. I failed to count the teeth on Goubys Ac which is a left of tooth 12 example , yours is a just to the left of tooth 13 and is in fact a 12 and 3/4 width , where as the gouby Ae has the 0 directly over tooth 13

Yes Pete , Richards and Michaels are Ac, and the one I have shown is the Ae 13 tooth with the 0 directly over the tooth.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with you both as your two coins are both Ac with the 0 just to the left of the tooth. below is a picture of all the different date widths I have found , and an Ae to compare with.

That really is an odd one , there seems to be no sign of damage or tampering with the coin ?

What a good way to work out at the same time as collecting, he must have developed a fair set of Biceps moving all that copper 😉

Unfortunately I think that the best coins are being bought up by the very rich, purely as investments along with art and classic cars, which are also sky rocketing. I collect mainly Pennies and over the last few years it seems to me that most of the rare types are rarely come onto the market. 😞

1940 Narrow date penny. This date width penny has been mentioned by me on here before, but I did not give any indication as to just how rare I thought it might be. When I found the first one some ten years ago I had no idea just how rare they would turn out to be, with just four turning up in all that time. I know that this 1940 type penny will not be considered one of the greatest discoveries of all time, but I think it will be of interest to the large number of 20th century collectors out there, It is rare, if not ex rare, and with there being very few rare 20th century types to collect it is really one to find and get into the collection. Below are the four types I have found, the one at the top being the rare narrow date. Note that the 0 in the date is centered directly over the tooth, but with all other types its to the right partially or directly over the gap between the teeth. Interestingly three of the four I have seen were for sale in the USA , was this a batch made by the Royal Mint and distributed to the American Army during the second world war ? My lucky fined uncirculated example also below.

I've shown a close up of my 1933 and as Richard says I to cannot see just how the alteration was made , but if I were to attempt it, I would cut a 3 off another 1930s penny leaving an extra amount of metal on the bottom of the 3 , Then take the coin that is to be altered and carefully remove the last digit down to a flat surface. Then I would etch down into the coin to the exact shape of the 3 . Finally inset the 3 into the hole with some kind of glue , as I think any kind of soldering would show . Although it would have to be carried out by someone with great skill such as a jewelry maker for it not to show . ???

1940 single exergue . A recent acquisition which upgrades my existing coin , a devil of a hard one to find in top condition.

I picked this 1933 penny up a while back now , but forgot at the time to share it with you . It would be nice if it were the real Mc Coy, but a pretty good modified example I think .

Acquired this 18.60 dot penny recently [ Gouby 1860Sx ], which also has the E in ONE trying to turning into an F [ Its on Richards Dot penny list ] When I received the coin I had a really good look at it and noticed something else . The obverse side also has a central cut ribbon, and smaller re'entered colon after F: D : Making it a [ Gouby 1860 Vc ] as well . So three separate errors on one penny ?

I think the H must have been added seperatelly to each working die as I have found 1881 coins with it positioned all over the place.
