Egyptian Gold Coins???
Matteo95 replied to aandys.aantiquities's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
corious that years with a mintage of 1200/2000 pieces have the same value of others with a mintage of 400000/500000. I think at auctions the hammer prices are a little bit different -
I'd go for a third way .... flans were weight also before the striking process , it was easier to correct before than after ...... about the lines to deface the king's portrait I t think that an anti-royalist would do lines more evident and deeper .... I think this is a similar case to some italians coins where lines were produced during the striking process by the machine ... you can see that the lines have all the same orientation and that some are also present on the below part of the legend ( so not made to delate the king's portrait ) examples

Matteo95 replied to Sword's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks Sword for these beautiful images ! I've never visited the exhibition in the tower of London .... next time .... this summer I visited the Bank of England museum in London , very interesting and rich of coins .... -
Nice coins , congrats !! You should improve your skills as photographer
-
you're welcome about the first penny initially it looked me a Stephen one but now I am almost sure that it is another Henry II , probably bust A ... for the mint and monneyer I've no idea maybe if you can post a new image I can try to help you .... for the cut halfpenny I am sorry but with this photos I can't see anything
-
Hi Jon and welcome !! Nice finds ! I am sorry but at the moment I can give you informations only about the second penny because looking at the photos trough my smartphone I have some problems with the others .... I think the second may be a Henry II penny bust C ( 1162-1167 ca. ) ... on the reverse I read I:ON:LV ..so London mint , the I is the last letter of the monneyer's name and considering all the monneyers who struck coins in London during Henry's kingdom there are 3 possibilities : Geffrei , Godefrei or Hunfrei ..maybe with the coin in your hands you can read some others letters Matteo p.s I think that just this coin is worth al least 100£ , it is in a good conservation for the type ...

Hi !! well first of all ... auction is not still ended , so everything can happen ! after this thing ... well consider that medieval doesn't mean expensive , there are a lot of coins struck long time ago that can be bought for a couple of £ ....this is a very common coin struck in Poland or Hungary , if I am not wrong , and so there are also few collectors interested in.
