    That farthing is beautiful. I bought this a few years ago. Well pleased when it turned up. There's a prooflike quality to the fields that I am unable to capture.

    Somewhere between the two I guess. I can't get my head round photography, I just stick 'em on the windowsill on top of a coin box and point and press an old Fuji Finepix F500EXR. It mostly works ok. I tried one of these much-vaunted mats as a different background to the box - completely different colours as a result:

    As well as the 1853 and 1871. A quick £350 to boost the coffers. Interestingly, the fakes are private listings with bidders' identities hidden, but other auctions are not.
