    1844 crown real or fake?

Are you suggesting that one's fake too?

    1844 crown real or fake?

I don't see anything that concerns me, although I don't think it's a particularly good comparison due to the very different degrees of wear.

    Olympic 50ps

Not me, but this made me smile.
  4. I had to get mine from the States.

    Gold proofs

I fancy that too but I'll let you have it this time.

    new to coins

Well you've got all the pennies so it's probably time you started on something else.

  8. I for one would like to see how you get on Paddy.
  9. Nope. Verdicare won't touch that. It's quite good for early stage verdigris and loosening grime though.

    Portuguese 40 Reis

What's the tolerance of your kitchen scales? I don't think they can be relied on to be that accurate.

    Olympic 50ps

I'm not convinced it's because people think they are rare, more that they can be sold for above face value. I guess you can't blame them.

    Olympic 50ps

I now have a full set of Olympic 50ps.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Listing removed as no longer available... Good work.

    Portuguese 40 Reis

You might be right. Could be a contemporary forgery, or possibly just a different die. Have you checked the weight Richard2?

    Portuguese 40 Reis

Not much, as far as I can see...

    Portuguese 40 Reis

Krause is full of errors (although I still think they've done a fairly decent job considering the scale of the undertaking). The first link I posted to lists as KM#365 and has the VI lettering.
  17. mrbadexample

    Portuguese 40 Reis

    No it isn't. 1819 is KM#365.
  18. mrbadexample

    Portuguese 40 Reis

KM#365 I suggest. Suspect Krause listing (pictured) is inaccurate with regard to the lettering as other examples show the VI. https://www.lofty.com/products/portugal-juan-vi-40-reis-1819-k365-vf-70-ebc-mbc-1-smsrz https://www.portugalmoedas.com.pt/artigo.aspx?id=17619

    Pennies High grade.

    Raw Pete?
  21. Ooo, Paddy, that verdigris is grim. I don't see how that can be removed. What made you buy it? I know you said it was cheap but I don't think I'd give you 30p for it.

    Music to sort coins to

I've just spent a day riddling about 32 cubic feet of soil. I feel your pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbhYqV17CoQ
