Seems to me you could have kept it and saved yourself a lot of trouble. -
1826 Half Penny Roman I for 1
mrbadexample replied to zookeeperz's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
Any idea why this exists John? It doesn't look like a proper Roman I punch to me - more as though it was entered upside down and then repunched normally. Is that a possibility? -
When I wrote it down I replaced the I with a colon because I know Pete's spelling's crap.
-
I've written that down.
-
Oh yeah.
-
I thought it looked very similar to Richard's picture of the "Freeman 2*"? Lettering in particular looks almost identical with the missing bits.
-
Welcome to the forum stormbass. I've uploaded your pictures to make it easier for people. I'll take a punt at F10 but someone cleverer will come along in a bit and tell you what it really is.
-
Might be a bit soon? I'd have thought the market would be fairly well flooded at the moment. I mean, even Pete's got a couple (probably needed two to make it up to a penny).
-
Sadly, I think the aforementioned tenner is in the ballpark.
-
It looks genuine to me, an off-centre strike I think.
-
There's a reason for that. Just spend it.

I don't think it's a button Dave, I can see a bust on the second picture and I'm sure I've seen something like this before somewhere. -

I really like that, although I do find the lion's face a bit disconcerting. Not very leonine, is it? -
Sheldon Scale (PCGS & NGC) Vers CGS / Uk Grades
mrbadexample replied to markflorida's topic in Free for all
I first encountered it here (on my birthday, as it happens): I guess it looks something like this: 1. Acceptable 2. Not acceptable Sorry. -
It's probably not ignorance, since I told them.

Sheldon Scale (PCGS & NGC) Vers CGS / Uk Grades
mrbadexample replied to markflorida's topic in Free for all
I don't really get all this, if I'm honest. I can cope with F, VF, EF & UNC. How can something be nFDC, aFDC or one of the 6 different levels of FDC? How can MS70 be CGS 97, or 3 points higher at 100? I've given up and adopted Rob's two-point grading system: acceptable or not. -

I don't suppose the obverse lasted much longer either, judging by the Baldwins pictures. -

USB Microscope
mrbadexample replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi amanda1, welcome to the forum. Can I assume that since this is your first post, you are in some way connected with the company selling the above microscope and looking to boost sales? It looks very much like the one I have, which is a generic model available from a number of different manufacturers at less than half the cost of the one you are advertising. On top of that, I would be unable to recommend it to someone looking to purchase one. It is adequate, but that's about it. I'm sure there must be much better models out there. Please accept my apologies if I have misinterpreted your post. -
How much was the torch? I need a hedge trimmer...

1922 Farthing - massive die crack or PMD?
mrbadexample replied to Paddy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A die crack would appear raised Paddy, like the one at the base of the neck. PMD for me. Edit: Actually, it appears to run under the 2nd G so perhaps present before striking?
