    Olympic 50ps

    Appreciate you looking, thanks.
  4. No need to apologise, no one gets announced! But agree with VS, an exercise in milling - the ½p inserted into a recess in the 2p.

silver for sale from friends estate

That 1908 half crown's lovely. Sorry to hear of the circumstances leading to the sale.

At least the undated 20p is a genuinely unintentional mule and therefore of some numismatic interest.

Isn't the design above the third Peter Rabbit?

Thank Jerry, that's the bit I was trying to see, so thanks for the practice tip.

Another 1874H, also on ebay. Think this is F73 - OBV 7 REV H, but looks to me like Gouby rev ja which doesn't fit with F73 <scratches head> <removes splinters from fingernails>. Where have I gone wrong please? Is it Gouby j?
  13. Thanks Richard, much clearer!
  14. What's with this one please Richard? I see the lump above the 7 but can't see how it fits with another 7?

Hi PNMY, I did note that mine was a middle pointing (ESC 1951, no stop after REX). The detail on the edge is interesting. Please let us know your findings.
  16. Thanks, I've now got tea in my keyboard.
  17. I believe it was fairly common as a means of preservation / protection before we knew better.
  18. Pete might know better - he seems to have a good idea when something's been monkeyed about with.

    Penny reverse ID please.

Maybe better in a new thread but I'll stay here for the moment. To continue my education....I have identified this ebay offering as F71, 7+G. Am I right please?
  20. Can't really help Mike other than to say I got a cartwheel 2d in an auction lot that I'm sure had been previously lacquered as there was a bit left on the edge. Came off ok with a bit of acetone. Is it worth looking at the edges to see if there's any trace? Probably more likely there than on the other surfaces. Looks like a nice enough piece to me though.

I guess that shouldn't come as any great surprise DrP. It'll turn up. The day after my Kew, probably.

Hi Guest really, why not join our forum and contribute your wisdom to our discussions?
  23. Probably enough of us reported it. Perhaps ebay have a magic number. 10 reports won't do it, but maybe if it hits 50 they pull it. Who knows?

Yes, ESC records the first leaf pointing to the right of the E, the upright of the E (as Paddy's above) or the middle of the E, like mine:
