    Modern Coinage vs Older Coinage

That might be because they think it may attract a premium for being still sealed.
  2. I think this is just corroding from the inside. The copper jacket has been compromised, allowing the steel inside to rust. Compare with this penny:

Surely this is worth £7 of my money to watch you eat your hat?

Welcome to the forum. Can you post a picture please? As Peter says, it's all about the condition.

When I see grading like this I automatically discount every other auction they have. Not good business practice, surely?

    Modern Coinage vs Older Coinage

Is that lying awake wondering how to dispose of the coins, or the wife? This might be of interest: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0499cj9/player I can't abide the modern "commemorative" pieces. They simply aren't coins as far as I'm concerned, but that's just my opinion. However, without knowing what you've got, it's hard to say. Keep what pleases you most, or alternatively, think about why you've been asked to downsize. Does it take up too much space? Is it all over the house? I'd probably be inclined to avoid downsizing by whatever means I could.

    Largest coin ever in circulation?

This is the 10 daler plate (think this one's in the Stockholm museum). As far as I understand it, these were mostly used as shipping ballast to exchange for goods at the proposed destination (or wherever the copper price was best), although the lower denominations did circulate. Much of the Swedish plate in the market today (about 3000 pieces) was recovered from the wreck of the Nicobar in 1987. I don't know where mine came from, but it's almost certainly marine salvage judging by the condition. Still weighs in at 237.5g though.

This Ptolemy III octobol is a bit of a lump too. Image burgled from here.
  9. I'll give you £7 for it. The coin, not KP's plastic bits.

Ahh, that's nice. They've taken down all the scaffolding that covered it in May.

    Largest coin ever in circulation?

Me too. This is a cartwheel 2d sat on top of a 1743 half daler plate. The 10 daler approached 20kg.

It was a market somewhere. Years ago and I forget where it was. Handwritten on cardboard. This one's Yorkshire.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Considering the amount of wear, it's surprisingly good! Good edges & no nicks, dings or scratches.

I bet there's someone out there who's been carrying a 1967 penny in with his change since...oo...about 1967. And not all of my coins, obviously. I got a few from you.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Thanks, I hadn't realised there were two different 7s - the LCA auction picture I looked at had the long 7. Do you get both 7s in wide and narrow date?
