    Next York coin fair?

Thanks both. Might be able to go to the January one if I've any cash left after Christmas.

    Next York coin fair?

Anyone know when it is please? Need to combine a visit to my sister, preferably before Christmas. Cheers, Jon

    My Latest Acquisition

Thank you. Slightly embarrassed to admit I'd never looked at the Sheldon scale in too much detail.

    My Latest Acquisition

I don't know. Do they give a higher grade for a better strike?

    My Latest Acquisition

I don't see how the grade relates to the strike. An uncirculated coin with a weak strike is still uncirculated. Less desirable, certainly, but surely the grade relates to the relative wear of what left the mint?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

From the same seller, this. Being what appears to be a reasonably high grade 11 leaf cartwheel penny, which is on my shopping list, I asked for better pictures. I was told, in a nutshell, "no, trust me, it's great." Within a few hours the price had gone up from £695 to £875. I wouldn't have touched it with the proverbial stick at the lower price.

    My Latest Acquisition

It's yours. You can do whatever you like with it. I'd like to know what grade it gets - I'd say it was aEF albeit with a slightly weak reverse.

    My Latest Acquisition

I like it. It's not a disgrace, a thrower, or shite. I've got plenty worse than that in my collection. I wouldn't have it slabbed mind...

    Brockages and other errors

I like the extra face on that one.
  11. My answer stands. Other way round for me. The pleasure's in the ownership. I can look at anyone's pictures but if it's mine I can hold it, inspect it, admire it.

    Recent aquisitions

All ones I'm after, and I've seen a lot worse than those.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Yours probably aren't hexagonal. Attracts a premium, that.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Ahh, the good old hexagonal threepence. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1943-three-penny-coin-hexagonal-shape-/272422382756?hash=item3f6da3aca4:g:BOgAAOSw~gRVokUH

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

If I had the cash I'd buy all three auctions and watch him squirm trying to explain why I wouldn't be getting 3 1905s.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

This 1905 half crown and this 1905 half crown and this 1905 half crown all look remarkably similar. This seller has some of the most deliberately deceptive photography I think I've seen.

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

Not all guides will give you the same price, so maybe try a few different ones to build an idea between them?

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

I always snipe if I can get to a PC. Bid once, bid your maximum, and bid with 5 seconds to go. That way any competition doesn't have time to outbid you, or if their bid was already higher than your maximum, you don't have time for anything other than a slight sinking feeling, a little remorse perhaps, but no time to go mad - the auction's over.

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

You might have better luck looking at some dealers' lists than ebay. Think most of us have got a bit carried away at some point though.

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

I would be inclined to agree - looking at a June/July dealer list I have to hand, he has the 1946 and 1949 in GF priced at £3 and £5 respectively. Mine are like Stuntman's. Bought as a schoolboy in about 1983 from the only coin shop in the area, probably in his 10p tray. I would upgrade but the prices are silly now.

Picked up today Pete, thank you. Don't know about the first edition but nice to have.

Can see them all now, suspect problem this end. Incompetent user error or something.
