The Copthorne collection of pennies
mrbadexample replied to PWA 1967's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I picked up one from Dave Craddock in EF for £14. Happy with that. -

Good luck mate, hope you get this satisfactorily resolved whether verified as genuine or refunded. -

Does that mean I don't have to spend the weekend looking at it every 5 minutes? -

I'd have been very happy with it for £8. Think I went to £14 before throwing the towel in. -

I was the first bidder because I thought it was a decent example and cheap. Now it's not cheap and I'm out. -

I might have a bid on that 1964 error. -

The one I really wanted was way over my limit at the lowest estimate. Tough to bid again. <sob> -

Neil's ever so friendly. Keeps emailing me. Outbid again, this time on the one I really wanted. -
Ones that got away

Ah, so it was the 5 berries bit that wasn't attributed, not the mule? Just shows there are bargains to be had out there. One day I might get one. -

1934 Wreath Crown Fake or Genuine
mrbadexample replied to 1934 Wreath Crown's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Is that something you can elaborate on VS? I would appreciate any help in spotting fakes, although it's unlikely I'll ever have enough spare cash for the 1934. I've had a look at the photos on the other forum too, and whilst I can't pretend I really know what I'm looking at, I note two areas that might be a sign of casting. The crack above the E and the slightly grainy edge as per these pictures - am I on the right track? -
Their website is currently down. One would hope it's crashed under the volume of complaints.

What do you think they'll do if there are no "elite" members and no-one's using them any more? I can't for the life of me see what they're trying to achieve.

Hi all, I was just wondering if CGS ever update their valuations. I.e. if a coin was slabbed 5 years ago and given a value of £100, will this be the same value given if I go and check the coin in 5 years time, regardless of the fluctuations in the market? Is it possible to determine when a coin was slabbed and valued? Surely, if it remains the same it's all largely pointless? Thoughts appreciated. Cheers, MBE

You've probably got most of them anyway. I had great difficulty narrowing it down to about 8. -

I really like the 1797 pattern. Not enough to spring 1k plus for it though. I keep getting outbid notices. -

Afternoon all. Just trying to confirm whether this is P1398 with the incuse dot on the shoulder drapery. Sorry about the lousy photos. Thanks in advance. MBE -

I got an email from Neil yesterday morning as he was aware (somehow) that not all of the bids I'd tried to place had been registered. They're both showing now. -

I don't like the waiting. I've got to sit here for a week hoping that Pete doesn't want what I want. -
