I've never seen one before. Have you?

Copied from a worn one so they had to guess the missing letters?

Hi all, Bit out of my chosen area of post 1860, but I really like the cartwheel coins. I've got one of each but in pretty low grade so I'm looking to upgrade. Not looking for slab quality, just a nice example devoid of the usual edge knocks if possible. Can any of you help me out? Cheers, MBE

Selling Coin collection
mrbadexample replied to GL1977's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That's a good start. I'd give you £300 for it, although it would probably fetch more on fleabay. -
Or indeed, I could do that myself.
-
Hmmm, I might be a bit late getting to the show. I live less than 20 miles away. However, through somewhat poor planning, I will be departing from the Manchester area after visiting a mate the day before. I didn't think that through properly.

Thanks Pete for sorting me out a cracking 2d. Well pleased, as always from you. Photos are carp because it's slabbed though.
-
Fingers crossed Rob.

£280. Not particularly unreasonable but more than I'd be willing to pay.

That it was inert? Still, it gave me the opportunity to test the cleaning power of acetone:

That's 30 years or so in PVC for ya!
-
Yes, it says it is. It's a good job I never kept any of the good stuff in the old album, that's for sure.
-
Did I see somewhere that forum members get a discount from the Predecimal shop, or have I made that up in my own head by wishful thinking? I need a PVC-free album for a load of foreign stuff once I've cleaned the green off from my old PVC album.
-
If it was you, can I pop round and have a look?
-
Estimated at 90-120 I think. And £200 was my bid so gone to someone with deeper pockets.

Did I win mine (2281)?

What do you mean by a broken punch Rob? -
1887 double florin proofs
mrbadexample replied to Nick's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If someone had told me mine was a proof I would have believed them. There is enough about the quality of the fields to let me think this might be the case. However, the breaks in the lions' tails would make me think different, as they indicate a lower quality of strike. I don't really know enough about the edges to come to a decision one way or the other. -
The double florin thread
mrbadexample replied to Mynki's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Certainly seem to be a lot of marks in the fields Mynki. -
You git! I fell for that!
-
Yup. Lasted a matter of minutes. Separate Faceache account required methinks.
-
Interesting. What do we think it depicts then?
-
Just a 0 feedback seller with a 3-4k coin. The relisted auction has been ended now - maybe offered to the highest bidder even though the reserve wasn't met?

1887 double florin proofs
mrbadexample replied to Nick's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
So what are the key indicators 1887? I also thought I might have a proof (although now accept this is unlikely) here https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BxBRenK8v0n-T0dhdTdzNWFoZ2c&usp=sharing due to a mirror-like quality of the fields (which I cannot convey in a photo). I'd appreciate your opinion.
