Anyone used that seller?
-
Don't you start too! I'm having enough trouble sitting on my hands as it is!
-
The florin too.
-
But this is where I get all nervous and distrusting - what's to say someone hasn't switched (one or more) of the coins? I don't know that I'm sufficiently clued up to notice. I have no experience of anything at that end of the market.
-
Well funnily enough I haven't got a 1927 florin. Or threepence. It's a good idea. It also blows the budget a bit. Hmmm...there are a few to choose from too. This one seems nice: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1927-SILVER-PROOF-6-COIN-SET-CROWN-TO-THREEPENCE-IN-HARD-CASE-OF-ISSUE-/201517546371?hash=item2eeb61bb83:g:aH4AAOSwX~dWs3mu Oh gawd, what have you done to me?
-
Can't answer that Nuts, haven't been to either. I'll be at the Midlands one in March, but can't make York. It would interrupt me watching the Tour de France.

And 1913 (would this not pre-date the theory that brass shell casings were added to the mix?): -

Found 'em. 1920: -
PM sent cheers Pete.

Anyway, shouldn't you be rummaging through your spares to find something nice for me? I've got very little pre-1900.
-
I'm picky when I'm spending £250 on a coin. I'm less picky with stuff I pick up free. And that 1915 ½d? I've got worse....at least it was flat.
-
Hmmm, nice reverse but there are quite a few contact marks on the obverse. I don't know that it's significantly better than the ebay one. It'll be interesting to see how much it goes for. Thanks for looking though - there's another auction site I didn't know existed.
-
Thanks Paulus, that does help. I like yours. I think I might have to sit on my hands for a while and search outside ebay.
-
I can't stretch the budget that far unfortunately, so I've resorted to ebay for the 2d. I'm too damned impatient to wait once I decide I want something, so just the 1d required now. I expect Pete'll be along shortly to offer me one of his spare mint-with-full-lustre for about £30 post included.
-
Jeez, did you read his description? "...a nice example, devoid of the usual rim knocks." That's damn near word for word what I asked for.

Think he was hoping for the blind or mentally impaired. Or the blind and mentally impaired.

Oh, I didn't notice the postage. That's me out then.
-
A nice penny for Pete. Cheap too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-coin-Georgius-V-1911-One-penny-Year-of-the-coronation-/161973674727?hash=item25b66222e7:g:~dEAAOSwIwhWRxlq

It's the rarer large 3 variety too!
-
Nah, I'm just a lousy photographer. I'll try again tomorrow in natural light. I'm as sure as I can be that they've not been cleaned.
-
I've been looking for a better 1915 halfpenny for a while now, as my current one leaves a little to be desired: But they're not easy to come by in good grades. The weekend before last I found one, although the photo wasn't great. The seller had a few more, so I bought a few to save on postage.

Done. It wasn't stuck or anything.
