  1. Posting photos of my AV Quarter Noble ND Tower Mint issued under Henry VI of Lancaster circa 1422-30 Mint State Quality
  2. Thanks for additional info. My favorite coin from Genoa are the 96 Lire from1792-97 with the Madonna/Shield supported by Griffins. There was a nice mint state example from Bolaffi Auctions, sadly it went way over estimate. Here is that other coin...AV Doppia 1616 Genoa Mint Doge Rulers
  3. One must remember, that the men who served in the Luftwaffe/Kreigsmarine/Heer/Paratroopers/Waffen SS Panzer Divisions fought heroically on all fronts, accumulated records that will never be broken. Unfortunately, they served a bad regime, but most fought for Country, not Hitler. On the otherhand, Stalin was a far greater evil, his Communist Regime murdered 69 Million people, and were bent on World conquest. The Treaty of Versailles in 1919, which unjustly blamed the losers for starting the Great War, was responsible for Hitlers rise to power/ WW2. Serbia probably was the real culprit in starting WW1. Present day, we have ISIS. These thugs, remind one of the Khmer Rouge in 1975/76, Soviet CHEKA/NKVD.... sadistic killers. John
  4. Sorry...the obverse in original post was crappy...here is a better foto.
  5. An extremely rare AV Pagoda ND struck Eastern Chaluykas of Medieval Indian Deccan, circa 1040AD. Only five known from this ruler.
  6. AV Oberwalden Dukat 1797 Unterwalden Mint only 150 struck! Another example of bad strike/weakness in reverse center! Interesting theme....Saint Nicholas getting message from God. John
  7. AV Scudo'oro ND Ferrara Duke Alfonso D'Este circa 1580 Note: coin was badly minted! John
  8. Depends on problem.... For example a Charles II 5 Guineas in EF, problem free, would be much better, then a mint state one that had been improperly cleaned. On the otherhand, if the coin was struck by the mint (milled/hammered) and there was a fault due to bad dies, off strike, weak strike, planchet flaws, etc., then I would rather have the FDC example then a EF with no minting errors. I will show an example from my coll.Austrian Netherlands AV Double Souverain d'or 1749 Antwerpen Mint Maria Theresia. This coin is FDC, but was struck with dies that had cracks.
  9. Thanks Tom, nice to share photos/ideas on numismatics. I agree on slabbing, I see material third party graded by Americans as MS-63, same slabbed coin is graded as EF by European Auctions. I saw a Flanders AV Cavalier d'or Louis de Male, that was graded MS-65, same coin in Kunker Auction was graded EF! I recently got a mint state 1/2 Guinea 1804 from DNW, a slabbed 1804 was sold by Heritage Auctions. It was graded MS-66 gem, mine was far better quality!
