    TOY COINS

I suppose these difference should be explained by the quantities they were minted and reminted in either by one company or by several. I have never really done a lot of research into them.

to be honest the D & Co's toys are well made and show great detailing they sometime surpass Lauer in terms of the clarity of the engraving (my opinion) really nice quality pieces. I just wish we knew more about them. Clearly there are new examples yet to be found and add to the list in Rogers please list any you might have I am sure we will find varieties too

larger lettering and distinctively different ship the date is different. Interestingly the anatomy varies between the two this one follows the mistake made by the Royal Mint engraving which attempts to put the trident in line with the elbow , the ship is badly modelled

There is some compelling evidence for the company being German in the Shilling of this series . It is hard to see in the images in Rogers for #442 if he just did not see this error in the lettering or we are dealing with another variety. Either way he reads it as simply saying ONE SHILLING in the two examples I have they read ONE SKILLING on the first the K seems to have been attempted to be corrected on the second the K is clearly just as it is .

D and Co's I will list what I have and begin some discussion on a few variants that dont seem to be listed in Rogers. First this Gothic Sovereign Or half sov ...definitely is seems it is supposed to be a shield Sov of some kind and still has a lot of gilt I will try compare the shield with the other young head Half Sov and the Crown and on the obverse I will compare the gothic head used for the Florin These all seem to be plain edged all 13 mm and 0.7 mm thick although this I will have to check more closely as some appear thicker The Gold Gothic .....is it a MULE of the florin? why then is it finished in Gold ?
  13. if so it is quite a clever way of getting more bids in they have obviously noticed that everyone puts them in 10 seconds before

they are very different designs? I don't know a great deal about these tokens . Do we know if they were made by more than one company? I know there is also a satirical version with Duke of Cumberland ? replaced by a monkey
  15. the rarest one of this series is the model with the Vertical lines i think listed as Freeman 797 as unique but Peck 2088 says there are three known

it is interesting this thread on model pennies and half pennies I have a few a dozen or so some varieties mostly because they are listed in Rogers I suppose as they had full intrinsic value they are deemed to be more than toycoins ...it was a clever experiment really I am not sure why the mint did not run with it ...even Wyon (the elder I think) was impressed
