Hi guys, only just joined and am brand new to collecting coins, my main interest is in british coins. I just purchased a book called collectors coins great britain and it starts from 1760-1970, are there any books/websites that you could recommend that are pre 1760 that show how much coins are worth etc (as far back as possible). I have looked around and am struggling to find anything currently. I have looked on this forum and also google without any luck. Also, if you have any advice or any other books/websites that you think would help me starting out please go ahead and post those too. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi I'm very new to collecting coins and have just been looking on ebay mainly, are there any other websites that you would recommend that I can purchase some coins from, mainly british pre decimal but would be interested in looking at anything british really. Ive been using coins of england book to get some sort of idea of values as I have no knowledge at all really and some of the ones on ebay are going for much more. Im not sure if im misjudging or people are just overpaying. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

Hi I was looking at a coin on ebay and am curious what grade and value you would put on this coin. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Queen-Victoria-1884-Half-Crown-Very-Nice-Coin-/371667233163?hash=item568917e98b:g:NYoAAOSw-4BXcTEe Im not necessarily buying it, its nearly finished anyway im just curious/trying to learn so I guess you could expect a bunch more of these from me aswell. Any advice appreciated Cheers

Thanks everyone for the feedback and input, I think the main reason I was looking at the cheaper ones was just because I really wasnt sure what I was looking at and didnt want to make a decent sized mistake without really asking but going forward any interest ill post on here. Thanks again.

I've been looking at a lot of different coins being new to collecting. I was looking at the commemorative coins something like what the royal mint does. What are your thoughts of buying these types of coins as an investment overall? I dont mind buying them if I like the look of them regardless, I was just curious if coins like this could be bought as some sort of investment aswell as I saw an article saying that some dont sell well/cant be put in the bank etc.
