Hi Guys sorry have not replied sooner. Thank you so much for all your advice. I did manage to win the coins in the auction for a total of £48 for the two so pleased with that. Below some pictures of the purchased coins. Please let me know what you think and any possible values as a guide for me please.
-
According to the auction catalog they are A 1797 cartwheel penny and an 1806 2d coin if that is any help. I don't normally look at these as a rule so know nothing of values etc. You are right only interested in the Cartwheel penny really as that is the best condition. Just thought I may get a bargain assuming that the price stays withing that range of estimate. That's why I was asking about values.

Thanks Pete I'm pleased with it. But I will be the same with Penny's haven't got a clue when it comes to them

My latest addition to the 1888 set of coins the Crown. What do you think ? Can you give your thoughts on grade please. I got this at what I think was a good price off eBay so really pleased it looks far better in hand than my photo's. Really need some tips from @Paulus on how to do it. I use a macro lens and two daylight lamps but just cannot get it right.

Hi Pete again as I have said before I have some of my coins slabbed because that how I like to display them. I only as yet have slab complete sets a 1951 set as this is the year I was born and my 1899 set the date my Grandmother was born. So there you have it, I choose sets that mean something personal too me. The 1888 set is not personal but is a date from History that appeals too me. Oh and by the way its 1888 not 1899 unless you meant the 1899 Farthing previously mentioned in another thread.

Hi Jerry thanks for the comment and pointing out about the second 8 I have now done that. I just used a slall amount of acetone and a Q Tip and just rubbed it gently it worked well. Well pleased with the results.

Well here are the results of a little TLC on the 1888 Halfpenny below.

This is the coin in question what do you think?

Any Idea's where and who to buy from. Any links to a website would help, or can I get this in the UK?

My latest for the 1888 set the Halfpenny. I am not sure about this. It does seem to have slight verdigris does not show in the pictures. I not sure how to treat it either as I have never had to do it before. It is the best I could find at the time. What do you think please. I want to get it slabbed with the set, but am sure the verdigris will effect this.

Happy Christmas everyone, have a good one.

What a wonderful coin the even toning shows this off nicely. -
I really do like this, especially with the light toning. Can I ask what happened to the edge at 8 oclock that's the only negative that would bother me.

I also collect 3d one of my favorite coins. Finding it hard to find decent grades between 1902 and 1910 though.

Thanks for the info I did not realise that

Thanks Rob will be in touch.

Thanks Paul I am pleased with it. I still need to find a 1888 Halfpenny, Silver Threepence, Florin, Double Florin, and Crown. So quite a few gap to fill. I do have the 1888/7 Shilling so not sure If I need to look for another 1888 Shilling. I have just filled the gap for the 1888 Farthing pictures below.

Here are original pictures of the 1888 Penny they are better than mine foe a comparison. Thank you I am pleased with it.

Just thought I would add my latest 1888 addition to the collection for your comments. Sorry for the difference in colour its my photo's the reverse is as the obverse in colour I just cannot get my photo's quite right every time.

CollectAny - Useful collecting software
UPINSMOKE replied to Jeremy Leach's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have been having a look at this software and I quite like the concept. Did add a couple of coins to it with photos and all seems good. Although there are a few question I would like to ask. Firstly is there any way you can add any other fields to this. The coin grading is not as good as it could be. Could really do with them being expanded or the option of being able to put our own grading terms into the field. These are most of the terms we use in the uk or though there may be others on this forum that will put me right. Grade Category 78 - 100 Uncirculated 75 - 77 Almost Uncirculated 60 - 70 Extremely Fine 40 - 55 Very Fine 20 - 35 Fine 8 - 15 Very Good 1 - 5 Good I also noticed that you had a field of price paid and price sold but not a current value which would help as what you have paid for a coin is not always what its worth i.e you may buy a coin for say £10 at a bargain prive when in reality it may be worth £30. It would also help as a comparison what you paid for the collection and what it maybe worth now. I presume that all the money columns add up the totals for you. But why in the numeric grading column does that add up as it does not need too. It would be useful if you could add your own fields or perhaps I am missing something with the software. If these area's were ironed out I may just go and buy this. Other than that it looks very good.
