Thanks I will let you know when I get it back. I am now very interested myself to find out how they find the coin. Its interesting as when I bought the coin it was described with a much higher grade. Not that I am complaining, it was my choice to buy it or not.
-
Thanks Guys a do appreciate you taking the time to comment on the grade. I now have the photo,s from CGS. I don't know if viewing these will effect your opinion of the grade you have given so far. I do think these are better representation of the coin.

I still have a little way to go with the 1951 set need to find a decent Halfpenny either slabbed or as is in UNC condition or may except aUNC so if you spot one please let me know. Apart from that I still have to find a 1951 Maundy Set if possible, but not top of my list at the moment. I have gradually been chipping away at my coin run from 1899 - 1951 with Half-crowns, Florins,Shillings,Sixpences, 3d silver and brass, and Farthings. The Farthings I have almost completed with maybe a few upgrades needed at a later date. I have gone further back with the farthings too 1746 I think my earliest so enjoying finding these. I am not so strict with my grades collecting the farthings, just trying to complete the date run as far as I am able. As for moving on the something else, I am thinking a Jack the Ripper set 1888 as I already have an 1888 shilling. Another quest starts for this set, may also carry on with my search for the 1887 set as well. Trying to find dates in history that appeal to me and collect the coins from that era.

As I said in my previous post I am only getting it slabbed to add to all my other 1899 coin set which are all slabbed as well. If they weren't I would not have had this done.
-
To late its already there so we will wait and see what the outcome is when it comes back. I cannot understand you about saying its shite and a thrower, and then when you know where it came from it becomes a mid grade coin??
-
Well for your information I did buy this from Colin on here as recommended, and am pleased with it. So make what you want out of that. I am happy, everybody to there own opinion I suppose.
-
Well if you can find a better one for a few pence I am willing to buy it off you There you go, I have thrown the gauntlet down lets see if you can come up with the goods.
-
Because I can My personal preference I just want the two sets of coins I collect 1899 and 1951 to all be slabbed. Both these sets mean a lot too me especially the 1899 set so want the to be encapsulated to pass on the my daughter and she knows the relevance of both the dates. I am not bothered about any other coins being slabbed just these.
-
Not that exciting but another addition to my 1899 set of coins. Views on grade welcome as I am having it slabbed so any feedback would be great.
-
I bought it slabbed through London Coins CGS grade 78 so would they have dipped it ?
-
Thanks everyone for the info looked at both links, Interesting reading. I can see the appeal of toned coins now. Thanks I appreciate your feedback on my coin. I just love it the best in my collection so far, or should i say the one I like the most at present.
-
Interested in knowing how you can tell its been dipped, if you don,t mind me asking. Coin arrived today and in hand looks exceptionally nice very pleased, and another space fill in my 1899 coin set.

My latest acquisition broke the bank to get this one. Victorian Crown 1899 LXIII. 2E. T of Victoria to space.
-
That's right you you stick up for me Paul These are the same coins as before just different pics. The 1946 looks far better in hand than shown in the picture.
-
Right I have re photographed the two 3d Brass just to see if any opinions change from the original picture on the eBay listing. Please let me know what you think.

Good Advice I do have the ability to snipe so really should use it. The only problem I have is deciding what price I bid. I use the Rotographic price guide to check prices, with not much success. I check the price and bid up to 80% of the book price and in most cases get outbid because they are bidding more than the book price sometimes double. I know the book is only a guide but it seems that the book is not showing the current market prices.
-
I would love to see some dealers list can you recommend any I can contact? I do get Colin Cookes but don't have a clue who else to contact. You are right I should stick to a firm price on eBay but then someone outbids you so then I think its mine and go mad at times.
-
Thanks Guys as I thought, I paid too much again Well back to the drawing board. I think I just got caught up in the moment on eBay as you do, and thinking must have. I must stop doing this Will just have to move them on and take the loss. Already bought two more slightly better will post pictures when they arrive.

Thanks Ian did have a look but for now its out of my reach trying to save my money towards an 1899 Crown and Halfpenny to finish off my set of 1899 coins. But appreciate the link.

Hi Guy your coins look superb a bit out of my league I think. Thanks for posting the pictures something I can dream about achieving one day. I do like the 3ds brings back memories of my childhood. I was given one of these by my Grandad each week for pocket money, bought a lot of sweets with one of these.
-
Thanks for the in put looks as though I have done it again and paid a little too much again cost me £23 including postage. But then again I do have examples for the collection best condition I could find at the time. Will keep looking for better ones to replace at some time. I do like yours though, a more consistent eye appeal than mine. Thanks for showing them.

Hi everyone need your advice please has this coin been cleaned I am not too sure looks very shiny to me for coin of that age. I did not pay a vast amount for it but will fill a space in my Farthing collection that coming on well. The reason I ask is that the seller has more of these and would like to go for them it this ones all right. Will leave it up to the professionals but not Bodey and Doyle.

Yes you're right about cgs having the last word the grade of this one is cgs 85 so according to cgs it's graded as choice uncirculated BU where as the penny is graded as cgs 80 which is choice uncirculated. To be honest I think there is far too many grades it gets ridiculous I cannot see why they can't keep it to say 10 grades which I just think would be enough that in their wisdom they have chosen to use 28 grades according to the list I have, far too many in my opinion but then again what do I know.

That's what my wife always said.
