No your right it did show the date in the picture but the flaw did not show so prominent as it did in my pictures I took myself. That's why I did not notice it, and being a novice at this and being recommended the dealer on here I just took the description as read and thought everything would be good. Just shows how much I need to think about before parting with my money. These discussion help me a lot thanks for all your help.
-
Just to clarify I bought from an online dealer and the pictures on the website did not show this at all, so how is it my fault It was only when I was photographing it I notice the flaw. I have emailed the seller to ask for it to be returned, so will wait an see what they say. Oh and thanks to everyone for the feedback it helps a lot .
-
No I was only given the choice of Reverse and Obverse pictures and was not able to get close ups. By the way it was bought from a dealer not the popular online auction. I am a bit concerned they may not take it back. Just wanted your views before I do anything about it.
-
Thanks for feedback, where the hell do you find them for under a Tenner. I cannot find one at that price. To be honest the coin looks better in hand than in the photo, I will have to try and take better photo;s with a daylight lamp would help I think.
-
Last coin is my 1887 Shilling described as GEF cost £18 was this ok price
-
Here is my next coin an 1899 Sixpence similar grade as the 1888 coin hope you like it.
-
Well I am not sure if I paid too much for mine now. Paid almost double for my Crown from the same seller as you.
-
As far as I am concerned I am happy to see price against a grade, as it helps to see if as a beginner your making the right judgment when buying.
-
I am afraid this is not the case but very pleased with it. Its another keeper. I see what you mean with your Crown similar hairlines as mine. I can live with them its not as I am ever going to send my coin to be graded. I am just happy to get the best I can afford at the time of buying.
-
Well here is the next one an 1888/7 Shilling described as almost BU I really like this one as well. How well do you think I have done please. All comments welcome good or bad. Looks far better in hand than in the photo.
-
Thanks for your input much appreciated. I am learning every-time I get replies from you guys steep learning curve but I think I am getting there slowly.
-
Thanks for the comments I bought it from a recommended dealer and was described as almost BU and I would agree not sure if you all would agree. The hairlines do annoy me slightly but the overall appearance in hand is very nice, the hairlines don't show up as much in hand viewed with the naked eye. I'm pleased with it and will happily keep this one I think Few more to post for your appraisal and comments.

This is the same Crown but taken in Daylight with some artificial lighting as well. What would be the best in your opinions.
-
I second that. I think it would be a good Idea.
-
Well when you have finished with them let me know and you can send one to me. I must admit in the short time I have been collecting I have amassed some doubles and trebles but only in the 40s and 50s but as you say to compare them side by side helps. I find that perhaps its because I buy a lot off eBay and as you know the pics are not always that good or they show the coin to be better than it actually is. Sometimes I have taken a chance and did not get exactly what I thought the condition should be, other times its actually better than expected. Be assured that I am not spending big money at the moment most coins are between £3 and £15 if I am spending more than this I try one of the dealers I have been recommended on here. I recently went mad and bought a load of 1967 coins 1/2d x 50, 1d x 50, 3d x25, 1/-, 2/- x 25, and 2/6 x 25, 225 coins all in BU Unc Condition in the tubes they were sent from the Royal Mint. You may say I must be mad and your probably right but I just like the Idea of having them like that, its also nice to have something in BU Unc condition. I am sure I may have been burnt on them but you learn from it. You never know I may get a chance to get rid of them later on even if I get my money back.
-
Ah I get it now was not sure what you meant, your right that everyone has their own taste in what they like. The two coins from 1887 was from the same seller I liked the Half crown more than the Crown but at the time the Crown was the best I could find at the time. So like everyone will probably upgrade at a later date if I find one I like better.
-
What are you saying that you paid a lot more for a better coin or is mine better than yours
-
-
The Postage was included in the price with some other coins. Well can you give me your opinion on this please I am bidding on it and I am the highest at £17 so need to know if I should stick or maybe go higher please.
-
I paid £18 for it did I do all right ? This is another below only paid £3.50p for this one. As for asking on prices on coins on eBay its a good Idea but have shyed away from asking as I have had bad experience before when collecting some other Item a few years back on a forum where I asked for advice about a few Items on eBay only to find out later I was being outbid by a fellow member of that forum so for that reason I have not asked. But will take your advice and ask in future, and thanks for you help.
-
Your right of course and again I jumped in feet first on these, but for the moment am pleased with them. The Half Crown is better in hand than the Crown apart from the marks on the neck. But will keep am eye out for better ones in future. I am all over the place and cannot settle on any particular area to concentrate on apart from my Farthings which I have quite a few and only missing around 10 between 1899 and 1951 have been using Colin for a supply of these. My Silver Threepences are coming on as well. The rest are a spattering of other denominations. Below is another example off eBay.

this was the original listing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1887-QUEEN-VICTORIA-GREAT-BRITAIN-SILVER-1-2-HALFCROWN-HALF-CROWN-COIN-/361641700524?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=%252FkMi9%252BrYAZ8oIpfnrNN301NV7mI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc This was the 1887 crown and cost me £62 I think I paid too much for this one what's your thoughts please. But I am learning as I go. I just hope its not costing me too much in the process. .

Thanks Paul for the comments, a purchase off eBay at £38 as for the pics I cannot take credit for them as they are the ones from the listing. One thing I have noticed is that the colour is far darker in the pictures than it is in hand. Have bought quite a few coins recently but for some reason having trouble adding to posts. The one I have just listed went fine, I was going to put up the Crown that I got from the same seller. For some reason cannot upload keeps saying You are only allowed to upload 501.76kb. but the picture is the same size as the last one. What am I doing wrong? any tips please I edit photo's in Photoshop.

I have just got round to finishing storing my coins and making records of them, so have been very busy. I thought I would post a couple of pics of some of them. the first is the latest 1887 Half Crown. I like this one, but would like your opinions on this please.
