Hi all.

I have an interest in coins and have a nice little collection.

Today we dug up a coin in the garden. It's a half penny from 1942, however it has 'AB 150' stamped into it.

Does anyone know what that means?

Many thanks!

Hakan

I would think someone has just been playing around with some counterstamps on an old coin.

Hi Hakan, and welcome :)

Agreed, it's just a counter-stamp, which are not uncommon, and will not enhance the value or desirability, unless you can link it to your own family perhaps?

Hi Hakan,

It could have been used as a Tool Check, is there any engineering or mining in your area?

AB could be the factory/mine or employee's initials 150 possibly his/her (it was during the war) clocking number.

but probably impossible to trace where it came from.

Thanks for the interesting feedback!

Much appreciated!

I don't know about the history of the area. It might be worth looking into as I've found about 3 or 4 of these over the last few years. All with similar dates.

Thanks again.

Hakan
