Testing myself on Freeman Varieties

Sorry - I've no idea why it doesn't work for some people. I tried to put the link into my signature but the new forum doesn't allow me to do that.

Not to worry. Just one of those things :)

I am currently producing a website which I hope will be useful for penny collectors to identify particular varieties. I am trying to bring together Gouby and Freeman varieties in one place with pictures and descriptions, including patterns and proofs.

I'd appreciate feedback

Merry Christmas

Glad to see it back.

Some images on https://headsntails14.wordpress.com/victoria-bronze-obverses/ don't work but otherwise it's very useful. Nice work doing all the denticle counting too.

sorry,

www.headsntails14.wordpress.com

Straight in (PC) and fantastic content with wonderful pictures!  Initial thoughts along the lines, 'this would also be great in book form' (as a portable reference?) but wonderful to also have this view and zoom option.  The word 'Respect' springs to mind.

Richard - Just one little query. Why have you got the 1889 Bronze Proof Freeman 129, and the 1891, Bronze Proof Freeman 133, as N3 rather than R8 or R9?

Hi Richard, this is going to develop in to a superlative reference, but I also have a couple of queries; I cannot see the F72 with ja reverse listed,  and I note that you have not followed Goubys rarity estimate in every case , notably in the Gouby F varieties, and 1882 F114 and 115; I have always found F114 to be considerably scarcer (as reflected by Freeman, R10 and R4 respectively). I appreciate this may be deliberate , in line with your own research. Have you used your own rarity estimates on occasion? The F72 ja will clearly be rarer than normal F72, for example, but Gouby listed them together.

And a little clarification of the years covered in your varietal lists, there is overlap in the titles correctly not reflected in the content.

Thanks for the comments guys - I'll address them once all the seasonal family stuff is done with !! There are bound to be some typos/omissions as I rushed through the preparation.

Happy New Year

Jerry,

Thanks for pointing these typos out - I will add F72 with ja. Rarity on F115 was an error. Rarity on the obverse G varieties is based on my own observations in auction listings etc. The proof rarities that 1949threepence pointed out were also errors.

There will be lots more so please tell me when you spot them.

Thanks

R
