I would say about right, the lion has lost his nose but there is very little other wear.

By the looks of it the rim has a knock at about 5 o'clock, without that I would have said BUNC as the seller states Edited November 13, 2015 by azda

I'd agree with the grading, although with the lion shillings the nose is a bit of a giveaway in terms of wear. Clearly the coin is full lustred, and the King's hair detail is very good. It looks in this case as though there is a piece of the nose actually missing in the first place (die wear possible), as opposed to wear.

A slight overgrading IMO. There is obvious great lustre, but the obverse looks slightly marked, and therefore imperfect to me.

I'd go for the first one for the reasons above, not to mention the fact that it's 30% odd cheaper.

i wouldn't deny that.

He has 5 1910 1/-'s on ebay at the moment.....all blast white.

1910 & 02 are the commonest Eddies so I would give these a miss.

My biggest concern was cleaning, he states that it has not been though. There are many "blast white" examples for sale all over the web, I've seen a lot of toned examples though which made me suspicious.

It frustrating really because I'd like to acquire high grade examples, but knowing who to trust seller wise seems like more trouble than it's worth some times.

You should buy what you like, people are only giving their opinions and buying from pictures alone can be difficult at the best of times. I often go by eye appeal such as the gothic crown discussed elsewhere in the forum by Swanny, even though CGS said its retoning I would still have bought it personally.

Look for something with a bit of age and character, blast white doesn't appeal to me but does to others.

Nose of lion usu. weak due to incomplete strike, but this has plenty of "bag marks" as we like to say. Dipped, and this may or may not be market-acceptable. I'd rather have a more fully struck specimen with a bit of pleasant NATURAL toning.

Like the larger denominations, strike and wear issues also reveal themselves in Eddie's hair & mustache, amongst other areas.
