Coin shops in Girona

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Girona for a few days at the end of March. Is anyone aware of coin shops or markets in the area. Haven't been back for 30 years and i suspect that the one dealer I knew will be long departed.

Flicking through the forum I noticed this thread and didn't actually see this one come up on new content! Sorry :(

Will you be in one area or able to travel around? There are quite a few around here, mainly Spanish stuff but there is a lot of hammered goods about if you want to spend the time to go through their wares..

They're also crazy for euros here so depends what you're into :)

Matt

I have a meeting in Llagostera which will probably wipe out the first day, but I'll have 3 or 4 days to look around otherwise.

There's a couple in Palamós but if it's a bit of a journey it might not be worth it because I don't think they're very big shops. You might be done after just a few hours. There's 5 or 6 medium to large sized shops here in Barcelona (that I know of so more than likely more), including a few that stock literally thousands of books, but as I mentioned a lot of them focus on mainly Spanish coins. As you know there is also the sunday market in Placa Reial, and you can easily spend half the day looking around there, it's great. Whether you find much is a different story, but there's enough to keep your interest piqued.

The main problem is that Spain has a terrible online presence, so most shops you either have to find from books or just from walking around and keeping your eye out. It's almost impossible to find information online.

Thanks, you've given me the idea of staying in Palamos or Palafrugell after the first day, hit the Placa on sunday and fly home that night.

Anytime. Palafrugell is really nice but I don't know of any shops around there. We stay in Aigua Xelida during the summer and Palafrugell is the closest place with actual supermarkets and markets, so we go quite frequently, but I haven't seen anything coin related (yet).

By all means give me a shout if you come down into Barcelona, I'd be more than happy to take you to the handful of shops I know, saves you spending hours trying to find them! ;)
