NOOOO not another Penny post!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Got a bit of a curio and want to get everyones opinion. I noticed that there are a couple of unusual marks on this 1893 penny on the reverse. The dot between the trident and P of penny and also the line above the 1 in the date. just looking for general thoughts.

Thanks

Brian

I would agree looking at the rest of the field, there are other gouges present across the reverse.

Definitely spurious damage during circulation. I blame Freeman and Gouby for recording the 1897 dot and 1946 splodge as varieties ! Still, it keeps us all on our toes.

Thanks guys. Appreciate that. I was most curious about the line above the 1.

Cheers Brian

I really think we need a section for pennies. There is so many different threads on this subject that it's taking over ther forum. 1 thread of pennies with sub sections.

if I see another post about pennies I'll scream.......?

I don't think Freeman made these varieties. Or did he?

Anyone think the 1897 dot penny has a F number?
