Rare but how actually rare is it?????

Recommended Posts

I just noticed one of the 1983 Uncirculated sets on Ebay with the "New Pence" 1983 2p.

I know its a rare coin but actually how rare is it??? Here is the link to the Auction.

Would love to know more. Thanks all in advance

Typically about 7 or 800 quid rare. Actual numbers? Not a clue as I've never seen or heard of any, but as with everything, numbers do not define the price.

Its the 2P that is scarce jaggy with the NEW PENCE.

I notice the seller has the other rare 50p aswell.

Looking over the ones that have sold recently they are obviously sought after.

I get that. I was just hopeful I might have it. I bought those sets so long ago and not really paid attention to them.

If Chris is right about there being approximately 450 then I would say that is pretty rare. The sellers seems to have 2 very sort after decimal coins. I hadn't realised he had the first edition Olympic Swimming 50p too!!!! Very nice.

Our own Chris has written an article on this in predecimal.com!

"Approx 450 minted (although there is no accurate figure)."

Very informative article from Chris there. Looks as though he may have been a bit miffed at the time of writing it initially to!!! ?

Thanks for the info guys. Knew I could count on you.

Not Robs, but I think he has collared me

I have recently cleared my Garage and have half dozen storage boxes of lots acquired at auctions over the last few years, basically I have bought job lots to get something I have wanted, with an impending House move, I am selling off rather than hump them all around with me.

Most of the coinage is RM Base metal and silver, along with the equivalent in Commonwealth coinage, Banknotes, stamps and covers, most of the smaller Auction Houses do not sort through these types of lots so there has been a few gems in there,

Seeing the current prices achieved for the 1983 rare set and Aquatic 50p 1st Ed. both at Auction and on Ebay I thought I would put them out there whilst I type out and image all the other bits.

I don't have a 2p. Inadvertently picked up the aquatics 50p though.

Don't tempt me. I've got a 90% shortfall on the funds I could usefully employ at the moment. :(

I didn't realise the 2p could be found in the year set, I thought it was just a couple of the advertising sets.

I think you can get them in both the set that Brian originally posted (Great British Coin Collection) and also the Heinz Beans set.

I thought that they only occurred in a very few of the "Martini" or "Heinz" sets but now it seems that they are in some of the standard RM sets as well - but very very rare.
