Pay Pal .....Experience

Recommended Posts

My experience on Thursday night might be of interest to possibly some sellers on here.

I received a payment and automatically my Pay Pal account was suspended.

The email then told me due to the payment being over £2500 i would need to contact them.

This i did obviously straight away to tell me checks needed to be made for money laundering on my part.........yes daft i know:o

Not a phone call from them as you would get from a bank etc nothing really apart from having to scan proofs of ID and wait for a reply from them.

Needless to say its ongoing and cant use Pay Pal at all.

Just thought if anyone is interested check with them first if the amount is over £2500 that you might expect to receive.

To ensure they dont just suspend you.

Pete.

Pete,

Did you just reply to a PayPal email, or did you actually get on the PayPal website? If you just responded to a email...it is a scam! Anything that actually comes from PayPal should be verified through their website, where you will find you don't have a problem after all! (if the original email was a scam). Just a fyi...

Thanks for the heads up.

I have to say that £2,500 is an extraordinarily low sum to suspend someone's paypal account for, on the grounds of possible money laundering.

I've just checked my paypal account and my limit set at $2796.00, sending and receiving limit. You can apparently lift the limit, but before you posted the above, I wasn't even aware it existed. Paypal state that the limit is there "for security reasons", but don't make it crystal clear what precisely these security reasons are, nor why it is necessary to inconvenience customers by having them. In fact they don't give any other qualification to that statement at all.

This limit should be flagged up on joining so that we all know.  I'd be seriously pissed off if it was me.

Yes Mike i am aware now .

The thing i was trying to do was just make people no what may happen.

I didnt have a clue and without warning just shut it down.

I have not got a problem with people making checks but feel they could of dealt with it better.

Perhaps they could of made things easier ,rather than just give me a headache :D

They could have dealt with it a lot better, Pete.

I would have understood it more if the amount had been £50k or it was a lot of smaller amounts in a short space of time. But if you're selling high end coins - as just one example of normal business practice - £2,500 will frequently be exceeded.

Loads of questions looked at ids .........like being with the old bill thirty years ago:)

Not much else i can say really apart from sellers using pay pal please check .

For the sake of a phone call worth being sure .....before they just suspend you.

Pete.

Oh and i asked if i could use your account Mike........ but they said you had already blocked me :D

I remember reading about something similar a few years ago - someone ended up getting locked out of Paypal because they had $1000 sent to them and that apparently triggered some alarm bells.

I guess it's helpful to know it can be increased anyway...

Most of my sales fall below £300, but I've sold two cars in the last four months, both of which fetched far more than £2,500.

Not a peep. So, have ebay decided that all high priced transactions are dodgy, or is it just coins?

Pete,

I checked my Paypal account, and it said the limit had been lifted, how that happened I'm not sure...but there was also a note that said, beware of a guy named "Pete", as he is a notorious "Late Payer". .......Before you get mad at me...I'm just kidding! Ha,Ha!

I got blocked for no reason nearly 10 years ago. If the same happens to anyone else, make sure you fight them as they may well give an ex-gratia payment as they did for me. I assume that you are still required to talk to Paypal in India, thus conveniently avoiding anyone capable of sorting out problems.

I believe there call center is located in the Phillipines Rob.

We've done over 100,000 transactions through them now, so as you can appreciate we have had our fair share of issues. Just last week two of our three accounts had charge backs initiated against them. The same person had purchased goods from two separate ebay shops and is claiming they did not use their credit card to place both orders.

I've tracked down the person on facebook, and taken a look at their pictures. They feature the hobby our shops caters to and they're from Romania initially. Funnily enough many of these cases are from people who seem to originate there....

I'd deal with a call centre in the Philippines anytime over India, at least the Philippine accent is easier on the ear. Once had a Scottish call centre, now that was hard work.V

Had the same issue when dealing with Virgin Media customer services - foreign call centre. Not sure where it was, but I know I couldn't understand the person I was talking to, nor could I quite seem to get my message across to her. Lovely girl, but like walking through treacle attempting to communicate properly.

My vote's been committed to leaving the EU for several years. Regardless of what concessions/opt outs Cameron does or doesn't get.
