Gothic Florins

Recommended Posts

Hypothetical question, of which I do have an interest though...

If you were wanting to start a collection of gothic florins, which years would be :-

The most reasonable in terms of price?

The easiest to find?

The most desirable?

Finally, how common are these in gEF and UNC?

I think 1886 is easy to find - no surprise really.

Coins in GEF + are seriously rare esp for  the early dates

Two shillings was a serious amount of money in victorian times and though a few hoards have been found the surply of these coins in good grade is seriously limited , you will need deep pockets to get even ten or fifteen coins , never mind the full sel.

the 1849 godless florin is a good start though there are plenty around in higher grades

Yes, I concur with that bit. Also such dates as 1858, many in the mid-1870s. As per the shilling post, you better duck if you want a top 1854 or 1863!

1872 is the commonest I think.  Guess which single date I have! ;)
