Queen Victoria two pence holed

Recommended Posts

Every time i find a queen Victoria two pence on the bay in my low price range they seem to have holes in them.

I have a Victoria crown, half crown, double florin, florin, sixpence, penny, half penny and a threepence but I am looking for a two pence coin to finish the set unless I have missed some coins but finances are down again for me. :(

You need a shilling and a farthing to complete the set of circulated coins (ignoring fractional farthings).  A two pence would be a maundy coin.

There are plenty of nice shilling and farthing coins available for reasonable prices, both from online coin dealers and elsewhere.  Decide which 'head' of Victoria you like the most, and then find a nice one in your price range.  Good luck.  I'd forget about the two pence if I were you!

You are also missing a circulation fourpence (groat)

Hi Stuntman

I forgot to mention I have a shilling and a farthing and I thought a two pence would complete the set.

I lost my mum to Dementia a year and half ago and I want to do some volunteering with the elderly and I have been collecting these coins as a talking point if i get the chance to volunteer.

Oh yes, forgot about that one!  I have an 1888 example.

That is another coin I will try and get hold of as well as the two pence and I will be looking for 1880-1890's area.

A VF currency 1838 or 1848 2d only books at a tenner. The 1848 might be a bit difficult, but the 1838 pops up quite often.

When I show my queen Victoria coins to an elderly person you would be surprised by how much you can learn because conversation gets around to their younger days and transport, buildings etc.

So I assume these few coins I am looking for are Maundy coins or were they just used as normal money as well

No not Maundy, currency (i.e. regular circulation) 4d, 2d and 1 1/2d - as Rob says, the currency 2d exists only for 1838 and 1848. Plenty of dates for the other 2 denominations.

Thanks Dave
