Where to buy coins

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm very new to collecting coins and have just been looking on ebay mainly, are there any other websites that you would recommend that I can purchase some coins from, mainly british pre decimal but would be interested in looking at anything british really. Ive been using coins of england book to get some sort of idea of values as I have no knowledge at all really and some of the ones on ebay are going for much more. Im not sure if im misjudging or people are just overpaying. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

I would suggest....what would you like to buy /collect.

As an example i just buy pennies, you find some dealers and collectors specialise in certain denominations.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Damowain,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you may need to pick up a couple of extra books. The Rotographic ones advertsed on this site, about grading and collecting will be very helpful.

eBay is just one place to buy from, but be careful you do not rush in and buy everything you see just because you want some coins. Have a think on what you fancy, ask some questions on here and take your time.

Go back through some of the old posts and you will start to see the names of dealers mentioned, also have a look at the coins for sale section and you will start to get a feel for things.

you do not have to spend big money to get a few nice coins and remember don't worry if you miss a coin for sale, like buses there will be another one along shortlyB)
