New to the hobby

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Alex. I am new to coin collecting and became interested when my nan gave me a bag full of old english coins. There was a large range of coins in the bag they included a 1911 vf half penny and a swedish 5 ore(don't know how it got there). I have not purchased many coins yet. I have purchased a set of the first decimal coins, an ef 1941 halfpenny and a 1921 gf half crown . This week someone from were my dad worked gave me a bag of 1962-67 pennys and one of his mates has given me about 20 sixpences

I have also recently purchased the spink 2005 coin book and an album to keep my coins in. I have a collection of about 300 large decimal 5p 10p 50p. That pretty mouch covers my coin collection so far i hope to add to it soon. I am going to start saving up as soon as I get back from skiing in switzerland with school on the 27th march.

Brief note on myself. I was born on the 7th August 1991 and live in St. Helens Near Liverpool.

Hi Mitch,

I'm from St Helens too! Welcome to the hobby & the forum.

Can I interest you in Ancients? Not as expensive as you might think either.

Enjoy,

Dave

Hi Mitch,

I lived in Eccleston from 6 months to 18, went to school in Rainford. I've been left longer though, live Manchester way now.

Where are you from?

Dave

Hi Alex,

Nice to know I`m not the only beginner on the site. I`ve just started to collect Gold Sovereigns.

I was in St Helen`s yesterday, because of work, seemed a nice place.

Kind regards,

Gordon.

Hi. I'm Fin - short for Fionnuala. I'm 12 and come from Northern Ireland. I have been collecting coins for ages and have a box of them. Some of them are very old and some are newer. I have some £2.00p coins with the necklace on the Queen. Do you know anything about these? How do I look after the coins? What is the best thing for me to put them in? Fin :)

Piece of advice the necklace 2.00pound isnt worth anything. There are thousands of them. You may want to buy a coin folder maybe the site in the top right could help you.

Hi Fin, I'm also from Northern Ireland!!

One of the most important questions there is 'How do I look after them?'

Take this from me DO NOT TRY AND CLEAN THEM!! Believe me, I learn't this the hard way! Anyhow.. I'm trying to find a coin collecting club here in Norn Iron, and if I do I will let you know on this site. I do know there is a wee coin dealer who goes to St Georges market in Belfast every Friday, so if your parents can get you down there, you could have a rummage (after me of course:)). He may be there on Saturdays as well, I'll let you know on here.

£2.00p coins with the necklace on the Queen. Do you know anything about these?

All 1997 £2's are with the queen wearing a necklace. In 1998 onwards, the necklace was not used.

And welcome.
