There are many different types of 1696 half crown, mainly differences in where they were minted but also extremely rare regnal years (the date of the reign in latin, on the edge).

The most common regnal year for that coin should be ANNO OCTAVO.

My monitor is on its way out, is there a mint letter under the kings head?

Nothing that I can see with a maginfying glass under the bust.

Yes it does say 'ANNO regni OCTAVO' around the edge (I've learned something already).

Looks to be the 1696 London mint, first bust, large shield, early harp variety....Which although sounds very complicated is one of the common types.

The going rate for that coin in that condition would probably be about £40.00, and that's about what I would pay too.
