£5 bag of pennies

Recommended Posts

Guest Pennymad

Hello - I am trying to get hold of a £5 bag of 1967 pennies - I'm after bright shiny new-looking ones for decorative purposes, not for collecting. I gather there are loads of these bags around, but that they don't really change hands because the pennies are basically worthless and the weight means that no-one wants to transport or post them around. I tried a few dealers but no luck.

Any ideas where I might find a bag of new pennies ? Preferable in the South East as I will no doubt have to collect them myself.

Pennymad,

I've got a bag in Kent! Rochester to be more precise.

I was selling them for £90 a bag to an Italian magician, but he seems to have disappeared (;))

What have you seen them go for? I also have 2x £5 bags of 1966 Halfpennies.

Wow - didn't expect to find them in just 17 minutes ! An unopened bag went on Ebay a couple of weeks ago for £26 - but I wasn't paying attention and missed it. Another one went at a LondonCoins auction last November for £25. I can't pay Italian-style prices I'm afraid (the postage to Italy might have been interesting !) but I'm interested if you are looking to find a home for the bag of pennies, and I am in Rochester on March 24th for a meeting.

Is the bag still sealed and therefore the pennies bright as new ? Thanks.

Yes, it's still lead sealed as they were new. None of them were airtight, but all the coins certainly are as new.

Where are you located? I'll just be in the UK myself from Feb 11-17th, but I could leave them with someone for you to pick up on in March. I don't mind taking them to you if you're on the way somewhere.

I'm between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, just off the A21 - in case you pass this way - but only here on 11th and 12th Feb.

When I come to Rochester I shall be visiting the Cathedral, and I could persuade someone in the Diocesan Office (St Nicholas Church - right next door to the Cathedral) to keep the bag under their desk for a few weeks, if that was somewhere easy for you to drop them. How much would you want for the bag of pennies ? Thanks.

Yes, I could do that.

If you can make a BACS transfer of £35.00 to reach me before the 11th I could certainly do that (or Cash on Delivery)

email me on cp@predecimal.com for bank details.

Thanks,
