1838 Uniface Groat in Copper

Recommended Posts

As the title says, does this ring a bell with anybody or is it just a fantasy piece of tat. There are some differences in that Britannia is bigger and no beading. I know I should put up a pic but thought I would sound it out first as it seems sort of familiar to me and may have been in Peck, which I've temporarily lost.

Luv Dave.

Hmm, I'm having a look at ESC - both the latest Bull version and the earlier Rayner & Davies for good measure: none have such a listing. A picture would be of enormous help as there is always the possibility of there being a new discovery, however unlikely. I am quite the fan of this denomination and so have been looking at them for a good long while and have never seen or heard of such.

No not me matey, I'm Cheshire born and bred. I was an online gamer when it first started, TFC, and Flash was my tag.

I'll get some images of the groat tomorrow, thanks.

Well that was easy enough! Nothing to see on the obverse. Weight exactly as a Groat 1.90gms. Diameter would be exactly the same but as copper is softer than silver it has deformed by the strike slightly. Finally it's not an exact match to the groat or to anything else I've seen, ie Ionian Islands.

PS it's1832 not 1838

No such date on the groat, and you needn't worry about putting that one up for sale. I can't imagine why someone would create such....
