Anyone any good at identifying Roman coins. Found this one today on a new site i have just got permission to detect on.

I'm sorry, but my eyes are not as good as they were!

Can you either spell out the obverse & reverse inscriptions, or post a bigger picture (if Chris will allow!)

Approximate diameter would be useful too.

I'll have a guess at:

Sear 4018 Magnentius 350 - 353 AD

Magnentius AE Centenionalis. 350-353 AD. IM CAE MAGNENTIVS AVG, draped & cuirassed bust right / FELICITAS REIPVBLICAE, Magnentius standing left, holding Victory on globe & labarum. RIC 264 of Trier, Cohen 5.

...Probably a more important attribution for the coin is CRB534!

Well it was indeed launched yesterday, in that it existed for the first time. I called the printers on friday and I will go and pick them all up tomorrow.

About 400 copies are already sold, all of those are in quantities of 10's to 50's and will be sent mainly to coin dealers and a metal detector shop. A few will also be going to Vera Trinder and Barrington Smith (wholesalers) and they sell to book shops and other coin dealers. 80 will be going to the USA.

As yet I haven't heard anything that positive from a major national bookseller chain, but I find it's easier to talk to those people when you have something to show them, so early days!

I'll also employ the usual tactic of buying some of the books myself to massage orders and get more of them on shelves. I expect I'll also be calling WH Smith branches pretending to be someone else and asking them to call me when they have a copy in stock (and then never going to pick it up!). In fact as I didn't write this book I may as well pretend to be myself this time.

I will of course be asking once again that the fabulous forumees can help me with this task.

Chris. I havent got a clue about Roman coin prices, as you can see from the pics it is in superb condition. What would you offer??
