LOL. I was thinking that 40p wasn't a bad price for a '67 halfcrown in F. Perhaps we need to get some clarification on whether those prices are in £ or p.

lol all the prices are in pence not pounds lol i think im trying to be good on my prices so thing hapened to the website and all the links have been lost for some reason but i saved them hopefuly they will be coins back up tonight

For search engine rankings, a .co.uk website hosted on a server that doesn't paste pop ups all over the place, would be much better.

Not to mention better for the visitors.

It sounds like you're all over the place Anthony. Here are some tips:

Think about what you want your website to contain, think about the URL, the webspace, plan things, perhaps on paper first, then launch something. Importantly too; learn about how to promote websites, keywords, search engine optimisation etc. You cannot simply create a website one day with no idea about the direction or the niche. To be a serious coin dealer you need to provide a website that coin collectors will find useful and want to re-visit. It doesn't necessarily need to contain many coins for sale, but it really needs to be well thought up, and have a direction.

Yours doesn't, and it should never even have left your head until it did. The few people that visit your website in the early stages are among the most important....Any first time visitor is the most important type, because you want them to keep coming back. After about 100 visits, you've changed the domain name, so now the people that had taken the time to visit you will never find you again unless they read this thread....If I was one of them I wouldn't bother coming back! Any decent hosting package should include in depth statistics without the need for a pop up generating counter.

To do it seriously you have to outlay money and be prepared to learn a lot. If you want to start any business you really cannot do things by half, you have to give it your all. The website contains broken links, you don't want any of those, get rid of them. The price structure is not clear (as previously mentioned), and I really don't mean to be rude, but your grammar and spelling is awful (as we have previously discussed). If you type too fast that's ok in an email, and even in a forum (to a degree), but on a published web page there is absolutely no excuse. You need to check things through before you save the page. Errors should never get to be seen by the visitors if you can avoid it.

If you don't know how to puctuate very well, or spell properly, I would suggest that the most important step, before you even try to sell any coins, would be to learn. Use free info from websites, or do an English GCSE evening class. Whatever that costs it will be an asset for your whole life and will help people take you and everything you write more seriously.

It isn't easy at first. In fact it's bloody difficult to build a popular website on anything. And you have a very long road ahead before you can give up your day job!

i have a couple things i have still left to do

1. get my paypal picyures working

2. have a few more links on history of coins

3 pictures of coins eg what they look like eg example of like a farthing etc eg the size and stuff

4. add more contects to the site more writing and always double check spelling

5. when i had my first customer if i get one a feed back link saying how i delt with them

OK - I'm being lazy here! This one's for Anthony, Alex and James!! (Sorry I didn't post in each of your respective threads guys!)

Anthony and Alex's forums first - a word of caution. Most of the time I'm on the web to search for new material for my collection not to chat. I found Chris' site either because I was looking for accessories (coin tickets I think) or because it had a link to Vale coins (hammered coins, my interest).

I did some business with Chris and at some stage thought I'd look at the forum and found a thread I wanted to reply to. I occasionally "pop round" to catch up 'cause I find it entertaining.

Your forums both look much like this one and I doubt I would spend much time there. Then, maybe I'm not a 'Forum' person - I have noticed the same 'faces' at other forums I've visited and nothing new in the threads to interest me. I stick with Chris' forum because it's active and varied even though there's not much chat on Charles shillings that's ok.

My point is that I agree with Chris - if you want a succesful site you may need to think more about what you want out of it first - who do you want to visit and why? If you are happy to have all of these guys that's fine, though I suspect that, as with too many similar treads people eventually settle on one site and favour it. If on the other hand you want to attract new blood (newbies or otherwise) you need to offer something unique. Seems to me there's no point trying to replicate Predecimal.

In summary then, my preferences for sites (and initial impressions) are:

#1 - James' - a straightforward beginners site run by an enthusiast

#2 - Alex's - a perfectly start for a site though I could do without popups!

#3 - Anthony - a good start but I worry you're getting carried away with what you CAN do without planning WHY. There are plenty of UK coin sites out there and yours doesn't yet stand out for me. Speaking for myself, I like sites that have pictures of coins (or at least some, so you can get an idea of the seller's grading). Here are two examples you may like to look at: Coincabinet and Timeline You decide which is more attractive and easier to navigate. (Don't want to be mean Anthony, but it's a tough world out there!)

I have noticed a minor error on your site on the left hand side sixpence and shilling are in the wrong order only minor though
