I'll take a bow.

Yes, it does seem that way, certainly the most popular British coin forum.

Hope you are fully recovered now Levi_NI. I went away for a while once and I missed loads!

Still, you can easily get back into things here and pick stuff up again pretty quickly... bit like a soap opera really :)

Just wanted to say hello! :)

Dont ask me how i find this site as i hardly know it myself, but anyway I should perhaps introduce myself...

I choised the alias "Berg" basicly cause is my last name, living and thriving in Sweden which is pretty natural as Im a swede...

So, Im not english and I even dont collect english coins... so what am I doing here, well I always find it fascinating to learn about new things and meet new people and hopefully I will manage to do so here. :)

As for my collection it is mostly consising of scaninavian coins from 1873 and forward "kronor" and "ören" but I do occasionally buy what ever I can get my hands on.

No Im only hoping I didnt hijack this thread cause that wasnt my purpose... just wanted to say hi! ;):)

Hello Berg,

'Bout time we attracted some foreigners (Juan, you're not foreign anymore ;-)).

Perhaps we can convert you to collecting some British coins, or even better, perhaps we can persuade you to buy some of mine!

As for beginning collecting english coins, well who knows but for now I think I will settle with looking around in your nice forum and learn more. :)

Welcome Berg, as Chris said, its about time some foreigners joined :) ...

I hope you find the forum and predecimal.com an interesting resource to coin collecting and collecting accessories.

Well, I'm Master Jmd, and I collect farthings 1613-1956 (as my signature suggests). :)

You might as well change it to just plain "Farthings" :D

Hi Berg, welcome!

If you want to start collecting British coins, you must get a Collectors' Coins Great Britain 2005 though, it is the perfect book for anyone that wants to get into British coins and it's author is our very own Chris.

Yes I found the pictures aswell as the historical articles very interesting. I took the liberty to make links to them (the articles) on my own website. Hope you dont mind. :)

Farthings, hmm is that a quarter of something!? Perhaps something similar to the scandinavian "fyrk" which is a quarter of an Öre. :)

They are sent from Germany and it's either EUR2.00 via land, or EUR3.50 via airmail.

Email me if you want one. You can also download it as a PDF, which I'll do for the same price as the printed version (but with no postage of course).

Thanks Chris I shall take it into serious consideration. Is it possible to pay for the book itself in euro aswell or is it merely british pounds that is accepted?

Euro is fine, but it would probably have to be cash sent to a German address. Which is usually fine.

Quarter of a predecimal Penny..demonitised in 1956, withdrawn from circulation in 1961 (last day of 1960) :)

Hi Berg,

Like the other chaps, I'll say welcome - you've found a very good forum.

If you do get interested in collecting British Coins, you are in the right direction for answers to any

questions you might have. Pre-decimal coinage was a little bit strange to 'newcomers'

I am new to collecting and learning so much about the coinage I used for many years (being an older-aged

member). There is so much to learn.

Good luck.

I expect Berg knows all about decimal versus pre-decimal... after all, Scandinavia went decimal a century before we did. They even had a unified currency 130 years before the Euro! Very far sighted I would say...

...welcome to the forums Berg. I look forward to your perspective on some of our discussions!

Thank you tubandpud and mint_mark for your kind words, and yes Scandinavia turned into "decimals" in 1873 and both Denmark, Norway and Sweden decided to have the same currency, but I see that you already knew that. :)
