During my travels today, I thought that I might as well take a visit to the coincraft shop whilst I was near the British Museum. I must admit that their prices are not as outrageous for collectable coins such as halfpennies etc. however, I could not help seeing the extortionately priced sets thrust in my face. I also met Richard Lobel...nice guy.

If I'd known you could have taken a couple of my books for him. He wanted to see them and I'm not sure if he has yet.

I enjoyed looking through the displays in his shop, but I found the staff to be quite brusque.

The Pheonix puts me off Coincraft....who is it aimed at?...certainly not keen collectors.

To be honest it was an impulse trip to the shop which I wouldn't have done unless I was right near it.

The staff there were very helpful, perhaps too helpful. All I wanted to do was look at their displays which were quite nice. Nothing of high grade or signifacance though, which surprised me.

The phoenix is just a load of overpriced toot which is aimed at exploiting the stupid.

Same here - I'm not too keen on the Phoenix either.

Unfortunately have never visited the shop - must try to do so sometime this year!

I think I will miss Coincraft during my stay in London, but do plan on some other numismatic pursuits. Unfortunately the Phoenix have given me a rather less than desirous impression of said Coincraft.

I do believe the BoE will be on my agenda though:)

When are you coming over, KV? If it's in June you might want to go to the London Coin Fair - both Chris and I will be there! :)

Sounds interesting KV. How long will you be here for?

Not sure exactly, but one thing I am sure of, not long enough to see all I want to see.
