help needed to identify coin

Folks,

I bought a box of old stuff at a car boot sale last week and in the box I found a coin that appears to be silver or is silver coloured.

I am hoping you may be able to enlighten me regarding it.

It is about 2 inches in diameter and the 'heads side' says regina. . elizabeth . d .g. ang. fra. et. hib. the face side shows what appears to be a female sitting on a throne almost medieval in design.

The flip side says 'a. dno. factv. est. istvd. et. est. mirab. in. ocvlis.nris' it has an old fashioned english rose with a coat of arms in the centre.

I would appreciate any information you can give me.

Sounds like a copy of an Elizabeth I "fine" sovereign (30s or double noble), which was gold.

The legend on the reverse is Latin for "This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes." (Psalm 118:23)

yeah could be a copy of the very first sovereign hendry vii 1489, theres a pic of it from the british museum in m.a.marsh book the gold soveriegn.

was also a copy made of it to commemorate 500 years of the sovereign.would be quite easy to mistake for a woman from the uninformed due to the long hair ect.

theres a pic of the copy on chards site.also one of the eliz 1st sovereign on the same page.

the soveriegn was actually copied in a lot of its detail from i think a dutch coin id have to hunt out the book to find the correct coin it was copied from.only one known as well and its in the british museum.

no idea what im doing up at this time

thanks for the replies, I have since discovered it was a very old copy apparently people used to make copies when they were missing certain coins.

I have now given the coin back to my grand daughter when she grows up she'll always have a story to tell about the coin!!
