Very sad news.

Forumees,

It is with great sadness that I anounce the loss of a fellow British Coin website proprietor and distinguished expert in his field.

Colin Cooke passed away in hospital on Thursday 21st April.

In his memory, and to show my gratitude for the help and information that he provided for CCGB2005, I shall be dedicating the 2006 edition to him.

His website will continue as normal, run by his experienced staff members.

This is an absolute shock.

I've spoken to him many times.

He will be sadly missed...words fail me.

Wow... :( i'm actually shocked, i was running through several names there but that wasn't one i had thought of.

I once talked to Colin on his forums at colincooke coins when i was asking him about how to date corroded Charles II tin farthings. I know farthings were one of his keen interests, he was extremely helpful and even offered to invite me over to Manchester to look at the ones he'd got if it would be of any use to me. I never took him up on the offer due to too many other commitments at the time. Pity i would have liked to have seen those.

He was more than a dealer and would freely discuss any aspect of coins. His knowledge is irreplaceable.

For those of you old enough he used to supply The Farthing Specialist with some of his stock and he once told me of deals

he would crack out on Saturday evenings.

He also pointed my wife in the right direction when she bought me Pecks second edition as a supprise.

An absolute gentleman.

I'm shocked and saddened by this. I've sent him quite a few emails over the past year or two and he has always in a friendly manner. Does anyone know how it happened, or how old he was? Both a great enthusiast and dealer has been lost.

He was 61 and the cause of death was a thrombosis.

I shall have to inform one other forum of this as i believe some members on there may have dealt with Colin over the years.

This is truly a shock. As soon as I read the "Colin Cooke", my mood instantly changed. He was a great numismatist and an inspiration to us all. I am sure he will be remembered for many many years to come.

I want to thank Sylvestius for posting this news over at CU.

I did not know Colin, but had exchanged several emails back and forth. He had few peers in the coin business and will be missed.

What can I say? I'm shocked and sad at the same time.

I have bought many coins from Colin, including my first ever purchase on ebay. I will miss him.

I'm sure our thoughts are with his family and friends.

After looking on his forum, I am very sad to announce the death of Colin Cooke whose funeral was held today.

I'm not sure about the circumstances surrounding his death but there will be a very definate feeling of sorrow for he was a great man an an expert dealer, he was also a world-renowned farthing expert.

From the post on his forum, his death was very premature.

Sorry about that, I havent been on the internet for several days.

I've dealt with him several times and could offer him nothing but praise. A pillar of the numismatic community to say the least. :(

I heard the news last Sunday at Wakefield and rang Chris that afternoon. Many of us at Wakefield knew Colin personally so the news cast a shadow over the whole event.

I was completely stunned. We have to be positive though. Although Colin's death is a great blow to the coin world the expertise he leaves behind him is something which we must all be grateful for. I have no news yet as to what is happening to his business but I'll keep people informed as soon as I know more.

Geoff

Neil Paisley told me that it would be run as usual, with him at the helm.

Not surprising. The firm is still in good hands.
