Are those three pence coins the same size as the shillings or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

Yes I also wondered that

I have spotted a job lot at a local auction including a set of Model coins featuring Queen Victoria's children. They are white metal and have some biographical details for each child. Apparently in a tortoiseshell box, though this not pictured.

These are not for me, but if anyone here is interested, PM me and I will send you a link. Current estimate is only £20 to £30.

Thanks to Paddy for the information about this lot. Sadly, I won't be bidding because, unfortunately, this auctioneer does not have an in-house packing/postage service, which means any wins would be at the mercy of an external packer, and in my experience they charge at a rate that would make any wins way overpriced. Just be careful everybody.

Wow! Those are really rare (only the 4th I’ve seen in about 10 years), and this is by far the best one. Very very envious!

My own example of this coin (pictured on previous page of this thread) has no trace of silvering - in fact, yours is the first I’ve seen with any silvering at all.

Somewhere there is a 1/4 farthing that was found by my parents in the 50's, going through a junk box that was tossed out and what treasures would be found? it has been treasured by the family and lived in a small pot on top of the television until it was passed to my "one day this will be valuable.........!" the value can only be sentimental although I did seen one on ebay that was in its original brass tin... sold for £33 I think.

on another similar rummage day I found a Ride Token ahhhhharrrggghhh! Pirates Cove indeed.....  the cheek of it was £1! I laughed and said it would be 20p or I was gone.. its odd how you get obsessed and possessive of coins, tokens, etc ... I know I do.

Just In case....

This secluded California oasis is located in the Moabi Regional Park, on the banks of the Colorado River, just 11 miles southeast of Needles, California. Pirate Cove offers an oasis that brings you back to a simpler life where you can eat, drink, play, and unwind the pirates way...........

What is the best reference for these tiny coins? I couldn’t resist buying a bag of them at the MCF today and I would like to be able to read up on them in addition to the excellent info here. Is Rogers ‘Toy Coins’ still the one to buy? If so, if anyone can point me in the right direction please do so, internet searches have drawn a blank.

thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry, Rogers ‘Toy Coins’ is the best reference, but it is long out of print, and quite difficult to source now. If you post some pictures on here, I can try and identify them for you, as might some of the other members. Kai

Thanks Kai, I’ll get some photos over the next couple of days.
