I've spent the last year collating a huge pile of old stamps and albums that I inherited from three different people,

into one coherent set of stock books, to sell.

They have a better distribution of older stamps, since some of the old stamp albums were very old.

Does anyone on here have experience of selling stamp collections or advice on how/where to sell?

I put a couple of sets on Ebay and they went for not much money...

I have never got into stamps, so I can't help with valuations.

I have seen two auction houses through Easylive that do lots of stamps and some coins, they may be worth a look:

Martello Philatelic auctions: https://www.easyliveauction.com/auctioneers/martellophilatelicauctions/

And James & Sons: https://www.easyliveauction.com/auctioneers/jamesandsonsauctioneers/

That's useful Paddy. I've some various Victoria that I have no interest in.

Like Blake says, they have little value individually, if you trust eBay but a rarity spotted amongst a bulk lot, at auction, may make them more viable.

Bit like coins really.

When I worked as an auction house valuer stamps were the bane of our existence.

Really difficult and time consuming to value and treasures could be easily missed. Ordinary, run-of-the-mill, stock books would either not sell, go for peanuts, or, in the rare case when we'd missed something..... but they had to be spotted. An auction house with a track record for good results in philately is the best bet just as with coins.

I have my father's and my brother-in-law's collections sitting in my study waiting for me to make up my mind what to do next. Either submit them to auction and hope for the best, leave them where they are or just hope that a grandchild may be interested.

I got out my schoolboy collection, and filled lots of GB stamp gaps from the mountains of stuff I inherited.

There are more gaps to fill, so I'd love to see what anyone has that they aren't needing.

I have to keep in mind that the stamp grading system is just as rigorous as the coin one....I wondered why so many of my stamps are worthless, then thought about it....duh....
