Hi Could anyone tell me how much a 1843 Queen Victoria 4p piece is worth or the history of it?

The groat is the origianl "silver Joey", named after the MP who recommended it, Joseph Hume. It was minted for normal use from 1836 to 1855, but towards the end people got confused between the groat and the silver threepence... they are basically the same size (groat is a little thicker). After the groat was discontinued the silver threepence became known as the Joey.

An average 1843 is worth a few pounds.

The groat was first introduced in the reign of EdwardI (1272-1307) copying the french 'gros'. It appeared sporadically after then, still being produced today in maundy money.
